3 July 2020

Dear Students and Staff

Resumption of Face-to-face Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs)

1. Face-to-face CCAs will resume for all senior students from 6 July 2020 in line with the following
safe management measures:

a. Group size. Large-scale activities with more than 50 persons (e.g. large-scale orientation
activities, Rag and Flag and Student Life Fair) will continue to be suspended or conducted
online.

Any CCA gathering not involving strenuous physical activities can have up to a maximum
of 50 persons in a group from the same work/study zone. All must observe safe distancing
measures and zoning restrictions.

There shall be no more than one group of 50 carrying out the activity in the same facility.

Each group of up to 50 must be further broken down into smaller groups or pods of no
more than 5 to carry out the activities. There should be the appropriate safe distancing
(either 1m between individuals, or if this is not possible, at least 1m distancing between
groups of no more than 5 persons). No mixing between these smaller groups or pods
throughout.

b. Sports and other dynamic activities (e.g. dance). For sports and other dynamic
activities in particular, there should be physical distancing of 2m (2 arms-length) between
individuals, with an increased distancing of 3m (3 arms-length) for high intensity or high
movement indoor exercise classes.

Trainings or sporting activities can only be conducted for students from the same zone
(Refer to OSHE Circular 23 on the use of the facilities by zone). Coaches/Instructors
should be tagged to a zone with the highest number of students and remain tagged to the
zone. Coaches/Instructors can provide online or offline training programme for student
from different zones. Refer to Sport Singapore’s Advisory for further details.

2. Wearing of Mask. Masks should be worn at all times, except during strenuous activities.

3. Zoning. All activities can only include students and staff from the same study/work or micro
(for Halls & RCs’ activities) zone. Mixing of students and staff from different zones is not
allowed.

4. Activities conducted outside of campus. All activities conducted outside of campus should
observe the zoning regulations for participants. For example, a bowling training session
should only be conducted for students from the same zone. Sessions for students from
another zone must be conducted at a different time or venue. Coaches/Instructors are
reminded that they can only provide face-to-face instruction for students from the zone they
are tagged to.

5. The following activities will not be allowed to resume:

a. Activities with higher risk of transmission via droplet spread. These include all
activities involving singing or voice projection (e.g. choir, cheering) or playing instruments
that require the intentional expulsion of air (e.g. wind band). However, students in these
groups may continue to meet so long as they avoid the higher-risk activities, e.g. meet to
arrange scores and/or discuss desktop research and theory.

b. Activities with a high level of intermingling and physical contact between

participants, such as orientation games that involve physical contact and communal living,
Rag and Flag, mass dances and parties.

6. Freshmen can only participate in face-to-face CCAs from week -1 (27 July 2020) onwards.
Student organisations who wish to involve freshmen in CCAs from week -1 must conduct a
briefing on COVID-19 safety measures before the commencement of each activity. A briefing
slide will be provided to every student organisation at a later date.

7. All student organisations are reminded that from 1 July 2020, seniors who have graduated (i.e.
class of 2020) are considered as alumni and are not permitted to participate in CCAs or in
organising committee, as OGLs etc in e-FOPs. They can, however, be invited back as a guest
speaker or as an alumni to share their experiences.

8. All FOP activities will remain online including FOPs conducted by Halls, RCs and Residences
during week -1. Halls, RCs and Residences are only allowed to involve freshmen in face-to-
face hall/college/residence activities after their e-FOPs have concluded.

9. Wherever possible, meetings/discussions should be conducted online.

10. The University will continue to take guidance from MOH and MOE on the gradual resumption
of activities on campus.

11. If you have any questions, please contact your staff advisor or osaresponds@nus.edu.sg.
