1. A Chinese national is standing in front of a cashier and he looked confused. The cashier felt
that he needed something to eat. Knowing his nationality what will you do to communicate with
him in getting his order?
Answer:
Let’s say that the Chinese national is a boy. There might be two scenarios for this
situation. If I know how to speak the Chinese language, at first, I will ask him common questions
like “How can I help you?”, “What can I do for you?” or “What kind of foods do you want to eat?”.
I will assist and escort him in getting that food and in going to the cashier for the payment.
Afterward, I will thank the person for trusting me even for a minute to help him look and buy
food. On the other hand, if I don’t know how to speak Chinese language, I will still assist him in
purchasing his food. Knowing that we are now in the advanced era, I can communicate with him
using technology and social media platforms like apps for Filipino or English to Chinese
translation. Through this, I can show him the words I was trying to say until he can buy his food
inside the store.
2. There is Filipino Muslim who wants to eat in your restaurant. He seems tired and needs
something to eat and drink. Upon knowing his ethnicity, what will be the food you will offer to
him to make him decide abruptly and satisfy his craving for food?
Answer:
All Muslims are forbidden to eat any type of meat. Knowing his ethnicity, I will offer him
other dishes from the menu that he can choose to eat aside from meat. I will suggest picking full
course meals which are heavy in the stomach to satisfy his food cravings.
3. There is a cross-dresser looking for perfume inside the mall where you are working. As the
salesclerk, how will you address the customer properly to avoid discrimination?
Answer:
First, I will ask the customer what he/she would like to be called (Ma’am or Sir) to avoid
misconception. If the person prefers to be called Ma’am, I will address her as a lady with
certainness and respect. Then, I’ll ask her what scent she would prefer or if she needs any help
so that I can recommend some perfume that suits her. Showing some appreciation to the
customer even though he/she is a cross-dresser avoids discrimination and can help boost their
confidence as to who they truly are.
4. Alice is a senior branch manager in a fast-growing enterprise. Robert, her boss, is about to
retire, and she is up for promotion as Robert endorsed her to replace him. However, the position
was given to James – citing that the job description is not “friendly” for women. What is your
opinion?
Answer:
In today’s social society, people are still being discriminated because of their gender,
whether they are capable to do the work. The frequent stereotypes still exist since gender
difference is an inevitable part to face since we are human beings. However, this is not a
hindrance for women not to excel in their field at work like Alice's case in the scenario.
Employment opportunities should be equal to both male and female not neglecting or judging
the capability of females. In the same way, the workplace should provide equal opportunities
when it comes to job security and promotion. Besides that, gender equality can increase the
productivity and progress of companies and institutions. When men and women are treated
equally, it can have diverse and various perspectives and degree of thoughts as it comes handy
in executing an analysis of the issues because it produces substantial effort to solve the
concerns faced by the company.
