Introductory Message!
Welcome to STVEP 8 - (INTERNET AND COMPUTING FUNDAMENTALS)!

The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts of the

Schools Division of Antique and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western Visayas through
the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD). This is developed to
guide the learning facilitators (teachers, parents and responsible adults) in helping the
learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum.

The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials aimed to

guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and time using the
contextualized resources in the community. This will also assist the learners in
acquiring the lifelong learning skills, knowledge and attitudes for productivity and
employment.

For learning facilitator:

The STVEP 8 - (INTERNET AND COMPUTING FUNDAMENTALS) Activity

Sheet will help you facilitate the leaching-learning activities specified in each Most
Essential Learning Competency (MELC) with minimal or no face-to-face encounter
between you and learner. This will be made available to the learners with the
references/links to ease the independent learning.

For the learner:

The STVEP 8 - (INTERNET AND COMPUTING FUNDAMENTALS) Activity

Sheet is developed to help you continue learning even if you are not in school. This
learning material provides you with meaningful and engaging activities for independent
learning. Being an active learner, carefully read and understand the instructions then

I. Learning Competency with Code

LO 3. Change Page Appearance and Layout
1. Spell Checking the Document and Entering the Date
2. Reviewing the Documents
3. Previewing and Printing Pages

II. Background Information for Learners

Are you worried about making mistakes when you type? Don't be. Word provides you
with several proofing features that will help you produce professional, error-free
documents. Let's say someone asks you to proofread a report. If you have a hard copy of the
report, you might use a red pen to cross out sentences, mark misspellings, or add comments in
the margins. However, you could also do all of these things in Word using the Track
Changes and Comments features. When you've finished reviewing the document, the other
person can choose to automatically accept all of your changes or decide whether
to accept or reject each change one by one. In this lesson, you will learn about the
various proofing features, including the spelling and grammar tool and you’ll also learn
how to track changes, add comments, and compare two versions of a document.
Once you have completed your document, you may want to print it. MS Word allows
you to preview your work before printing. Preview allows you to see what the file or document
will look like once it is printed. MS word also has a feature to insert the date and updated
automatically, this is useful when you are not certain when you will send or print the document.
And this lesson covers the tasks in the Print pane, along with the Quick
Print feature, and Date.
Read further information about this lesson below.

SPELLING AND GRAMMAR CHECKED

Spell Checking the Document

The Spell Checker feature is turned on as default when you see the program
unless you want it to be turned off. This spelling checker is always running as you
work, and it locates and identifies word that does not appear in its dictionary. These
words are identified by a red wavy underline. The red line indicates a misspelled word.
The green line indicates a grammatical error. The blue line indicates a contextual spelling
error. This feature is turned off by default. These words may be corrected if necessary.

1. Go to the Review tab.

2. Click on the Spelling & Grammar command.

4
3. The Spelling and
Grammar dialog box will
open. For each error in
your document, Word will
try to offer one or
more suggestions. You can
select a suggestion and
click Change to correct the
error.
4. If no suggestions are given, you can manually type the correct
spelling.

Ignoring "errors"

The spelling and grammar check is not always correct. Particularly with grammar,
there are many errors Word will not notice. There are also times when the spelling
and grammar check will say something's an error when it's actually not. This often
happens with people's names, which may not be in the dictionary.

If Word says something is an error, you can choose not to change it. Depending on
whether it's a spelling or grammar error, you can choose from several options:

For spelling "errors"

 Ignore Once: This will skip the word without changing it.
 Ignore All: This will skip the word without changing it, and it
will also skip all other instances of this word in the document.
 Add to Dictionary: This adds the word to the dictionary so it
will never come up as an error. Make sure the word is spelled
correctly before choosing this option.
For grammar "errors"

5
 Ignore Once: This will skip the "error" without changing it.
 Ignore Rule: This will skip this "error" and all other instances
that relate to this grammar rule.
 Next Sentence: This skips the sentence without changing it
and leaves it marked as an error. This means it will still show
up if you do another spelling and grammar check later on.
If you're not sure about a grammar error, you can click Explain to see why
Word thinks it's an error. This can help you determine whether you want to
change it.
To use the spelling check feature using contextual tab
1. Right-click
the underlined
word. A menu will
appear.
2. Click the correct
spelling of the word
from the listed
suggestions.
3. The corrected word
will appear in the
document.

You can choose to Ignore an underlined word, add it to the dictionary, or go to

the Spelling dialog box for more options.

ENTERING THE DATE

MS Word has a command that will allow you to insert the date.
1. Click the Insert tab, go to the Text group and click the date and Time
button and a dialog box will appear.
2. Select the desired format from the list.
3. Check the box Update Automatically. This will change the date to the
current date each time the file is opened. If you do not select this, the
date will be inserted as text.
4. Click Ok and the current date will now appear in the document.

Reviewing the Document

Using Track Changes and Comments

When you need to collaborate on the content of a document or if you need

someone to proofread your document, Word's Track and Comments features make
it easier for you to collaborate with others.

6
About Track Changes

When you turn on the Track Changes option, all changes you make to the
document show up as colored markups. If you delete some text, it won't disappear
but instead will have a visible strike through it. If you add text, it will be underlined.
This allows another person to see which changes have been made before making the
changes permanent.

For Example:

The color of the markups will vary depending on who is reviewing the document, so
if there are multiple reviewers, you'll be able to tell at a glance who made each
change.

To turn on Track Changes:

1. Click the Review tab.

2. Click the Track Changes command.
It should now be highlighted in gold
to show that it is active.
3. Any changes you make to the
document will be shown as colored
markups.
For
example:

4. Click the Track Changes command again to turn it off.

Adding and Deleting Comments

Sometimes instead of changing something, you may want to make

a comment about part of the document. Comments show up in balloons in the right
margin and can be read by the original author or by any other reviewers.

7
To add a comment:

1. Highlight some text, or place

the insertion point where you
want the comment to appear.
2. From the Review tab, click
the New Comment command.

3. Type your comment.

For example:

To delete a comment:

1. Select the balloon containing the comment you want to delete.

2. From the Review tab,

click
the Delete command.

To accept or reject changes:

1. Select the change you want to accept or reject.

2. From the Review tab, click

the Accept or Reject command.

3. If you accepted the change, the

markup will disappear, and the
text will look normal.

For some tracked changes, you can reject the changes by deleting them as if they
were normal text. For example, if a reviewer adds a word to a sentence, you can just
delete the word.

8
MS Word allows you to preview your work before printing. Preview allows you
to see what the file or document will look like once it is printed. It is always ideal to
see your file before printing to avoid any mistakes on printed pages.
1. Click the File tab and click Print.
2. The screen will show a preview on how the document will look like when
it is printed.
3. To print the document, set the print settings such as number of print
Copies, printer, Settings and Pages.

4. Click the Print button.

5. Another way to print is by clicking the Print button on the Quick

Access Toolbar.

1. Find the misspelled words in the passage below. In your Activity

Notebook copy all misspelled words and write the correct spelling.

Sam, the White Pup

Sam is a cute white pup. I met him in one of my adventures in the

luvely world of wild cats. I was search then for a potential kitten to back me up in
an extre-ordinery battle of words where only kittens, tiny but smart kittens, would
thrive.
There were lost of kittens around, practicaly all sorts of kittens:
whete kittens, black kittens, brown kittens, orange kittens, yellow kittens, blue
kittens, spotted kittens. Yes, really colorful kittens, running, playing, meowing
around in a naibe manner, and yet trying to catch my atention for they know that I
was in an obstinate search.
I did find time scrutinize each kitten, looking entently at their tails,
their paws, their ears, their spoted mouth, their wiskers, their fur, and even the

10
color of their tonque when they open their mouth to amase me of the way they meow.
I knew I was an expert on this kitten hunting thing. Yet, that time, I knew I was
about to fail. I could not have the perfect kitten as my bet.
I did accept my fate. I am losing the batel of words to welcome the
coming of the rain in our town. I was about to leave the place when I spotted this
cute, white pup.” Hmmm… what is this white pup doing here?” I quietly told myself.
I was not really fassineted with him. He was white. He just looked like a tiny dot
against the colorful background of the kittens. I wouldn’t like him. I had promised
myself that If I would take a pup, I’ll settle for a spated one.Yet, the white pup made
me gase at him intently.
I realized he was not plain as I thuoght. He did teach me that white
is the presence of all colors. He did teach me that life is not all black and white, Yes,
I took Sam, the white pup, not to be my bet for the battle of words to welcome rain,
but to make me puor out the icy tears from my eyes. These were the tears I have
been trying to stop from falling, the tears that made my heart black. Sam, the cute
white pup, did teach me lessons of life. He showered me an abondence of rain to
clear my haevy heart.
