*P3a. Description:
Statistical Research, Inc. (SRI) discovered this site during the course of an intensive pedestrian survey whose goal was to
conclusively define the current boundaries of site CA-SBR-4969 (cf. Becker et al. n.d.). This site is a small, light density lithic
scatter on poorly formed desert pavement. The site has two major components; a small scatter of basalt flaking debitage from core
reduction, biface reduction, and indeterminate reduction, and 25 m east, a small lithic reduction locus of chert core reduction flakes
and a chert core. The desert pavement has been impacted by vehicle traffic (broken flakes, ruts, and tracks) and military activities.
The site is within 10-20 m of a rill to the southwest, oriented northwest-southeast. Rubifaction analysis was conducted at this site
with samples taken from debitage. None of the surrounding natural cobbles had adequate rubifaction development for analysis, so
no control samples were taken.

*A5. Cultural Constituents:
The site consists of a small, light density lithic scatter of basalt and chert flaking debitage in a 10 x 5 m area. A total of 53 pieces
of flaking debitage was observed from core reduction and indeterminate reduction. There are few artifacts between this scatter
and the feature to the east. No cores or tools were recorded. One rubifaction sample was taken from a flake.
Artifact Concentration 1 (PD 9031) - chert lithic reduction locus consisting of 20 chert core reduction and indeterminate flakes
and one multi-directional core in a 1 x 0.5 m area, 25 m east of the main lithic scatter. (Note that Statistical Research, Inc. [SRI]
uses the abbreviation “PD” as an abbreviation for “Provenience Designation,” in other words a designation system for point
provenienced artifacts, features, artifact concentrations, site datums, or test units/pits)

A10. Environmental Setting:
Mojave Desert, high desert biome, creosote and rabbit brush predominate, small fauna predominate, desert pavement on alluvial
fan with many small washes and rills intersecting the desert pavement. The desert pavement is poorly formed with poor varnish
on surface cobbles and gravel, all rocks are igneous - basalts, rhyolites, and granites. The site is located on a nearly flat surface,
less than 1° slope and a southern to southeastern aspect.
