3.6 Key Resources

Key Resources is the building component describing the most significant assets

required to make a business model work. The resources are needed to create value

for Roti Canai Budak Sekolah's customers. Customers are viewed as assets that

must be maintained and supported in order for a company to survive and thrive.

There are four basic categories in which these resources might be classified:

• Human resources, or staff, such as skilled employees and suppliers.

• Intellectual resources, such as brand and recipes.

• Financial resources, cash on hand.

Roti Canai Budak Sekolah produces a variety of food. To run their business

smoothly, they need a stall and point of sale system. Besides that, skilled employees

are more important in this business sector. This is because, without good employees,

they cannot reach their business goals as they play an important role in positions

such as counter staff, roti canai spreader, etc. In addition, intellectual resources for

Roti Canai Budak Sekolah’s business are their branding itself. Their business needs

to have their brand to promote and sell their product. Last but not

13
least, cash on hand is important for this business because it runs primarily on cash

transactions.

3.7 Channel

Channel is defined as a process in which a business develops multiple

marketing and sales strategies in order to reach the largest potential consumer base.

As for Roti Canai Budak Sekolah, the business offers direct selling for the customers

to buy their products, so they must come to the stall by themselves. This distribution

channel is the simplest method and will make a strong customer relationship between

their business and the customers. Other than that, they also promote their business

on social media platforms such as Facebook to tell people about their business.

3.8 Cost Structure

Cost structure defines all the costs and expenses that have been made in the

business such as ingredient cost, workers salary, site lease, utility expenses, and

uniform cost. In Roti Canai Budak Sekolah, there is a fixed cost which includes rent

and staff salaries. They rent a site for their business operation. Besides that, for

workers’ salaries, they have almost 5 workers with different work positions that need

to pay. Next, their variable cost such as business utility expenses, uniform costs, and

the items that are directly used in serving their customers. For example, ingredient

cost such as raw meat, vegetables, etc.

3.9 Revenue Streams

14
A revenue stream is a source of revenue for the business. Revenue stream helps

a lot in their business to make it clear on how and through which pricing mechanism

their business model is capturing value. The first source of revenue of Roti Canai

Budak Sekolah's business is the sales of their food and drinks. Customers' willingness

to acquire and pay for the products influences the business revenue.

15
4.0 FINDING AND DISCUSSION.

4.1 Major Business Problems

A business problem is often a specific issue that a company's potential

customers are experiencing in a major way. For the most part, it is literally regarded

of problem areas as significant obstacles. Customer pain points, like any other

problem, are as many and diverse as their potential customers themselves.

However, not all prospects will be aware of the issue they are having, which can

make marketing to them difficult because they must appropriately educate them to

recognize that they have a problem and convince them that their product or service

can be improvised. Product competitiveness, maintaining a spirit of teamwork, and

difficulty obtaining raw materials are the major business problems that the company

faces.

As we know, there are many similar products that will be competition, and this will

cause the product of Roti Canai going to sink and not be known to many people.

Many people sell the same product and what differentiates people's products, and

their products is in terms of quality, price, and service to attract customers to buy.

There are several competitors that provide the similar products as Roti Canai Budak

Sekolah which are Roti Canai Pak Su, and Roti Canai Parking Dalam. Every

business is up against rivals. Even if they are the only restaurant in town, they will

have to compete with other businesses for their customers' money. Because of the

growing use of the Internet to buy products and services and find places to visit, they

are no longer solely competing with their neighbours, but they may find themself

competing against companies from different nations. The question is, how do this

business raise the name of Roti Canai Budak Sekolah so that it is known well by the

people.

16
In a restaurant or any food stall, regardless of concept or pricing range, the one thing

that distinguishes them from the competition will be their level of service and how they

maintain a spirit of teamwork among workers in workplace. Team members may not

realize they are making a problem until it is too late because of the perceived distance

and lack of communication. "The basic goal of team is for the company to fulfil its

maximum potential, regardless of any individual differences." - Hospitality Ideas.

While an organization chances to miss a lot if a team fails, a very well team working

toward a common purpose stand to gain a lot, not least financial advantages.

Employee engagement, cooperation, and creativity all contribute to increased

productivity and efficiency when a team is healthy. In Roti Canai Budak Sekolah's

business, they have difficulty in maintaining the teamwork spirit among their

employees. Even if their employees are among family members, it does not

guarantee to get good teamwork due to several factors. When teams fail and factions

formed, workplace civility drops. Any kind of productive conversation will be blocked

by a loss of mutual respect, and perhaps downright hatred.

Besides, raw materials are substances or materials that are utilized in the

manufacture or basic production of items. Generally, raw materials in Roti Canai

Budak Sekolah are natural resources like beef, chicken, onions, eggs, loaf and so

on. Prior to being consumed in the manufacturing process, raw materials are

frequently changed for use in other operations. The major problem faced by the

business is stock of raw materials is always insufficient and unavailable. Sometimes

supermarkets that sell raw materials in bulk do not have stock at a particular time.

Therefore, as a business of Roti Canai, they must be sensitive to the suppliers of raw

materials for their business to avoid the production problem of Roti Canai in the

future. In addition to these issues, it is important since a lack of required raw

17
materials may result in a slowdown production as well as unused machinery and

people. Furthermore, ordering too far in advance might result in a lockup of working

capital.

4.1 Discussions

4.1.1 Product competition

It takes a lot of effort to run a Roti Canai Budak Sekolah's business. While rivalry may
appear to be a disadvantage for a business, it provides its own set of benefits. Although
competition makes it difficult to gain customers and sales, it also motivates them to
work harder and push themselves to their limits in order to effectively run their business.
But, as they say, business is a competition, and competition is a business in and of
itself. It's difficult to compete against the market's top competitors, who have massive
marketing expenditures and unrivalled purchasing power. It also forces them to be
focused and persistent in their efforts to improve the quality of their products and
services. Here are some strategies for Roti Canai Budak Sekolah’s owner to take
advantage of the positive aspects of competition and use them to their advantage in
the long run.

The first is to keep a close eye on their competitors. Keep a watchful eye on their
competitors while focusing on their own brand and sales and marketing strategy.
Knowing the current market, announcements, and most recent inventions of their
competitors will assist them in determining where opportunities exist. Most of the time,
companies aren't seen as a significant threat to top-tier competitors in the same
industry, so they won't pay attention to what they're planning and doing. Use this as a
jumping off point to go ninja on their competition and steal their market in a stealthy
manner. They can employ someone to act as a mystery shopper for their main
competitors, monitor all of their social media accounts and take note of their techniques,
and visit their website on occasion to check for new deals or items. They should not
focus on the competition in order to beat them, but they should never ignore what they
are doing.

They should next choose a specialty and market their strengths. It is impossible for a
small business to compete and succeed against the industry's major competitors.

18
They can, however, begin slowly by focusing on a specific market sector and gradually
creating their own loyal following. Whatever market they're in, there are untapped
categories just waiting to be discovered. Finding a niche can be a difficult and time-
consuming process but recognizing the proper market and selling to the right customers
allows a company to develop beyond its competitors. Use the strengths of their products
or services as their advantage. Find out what makes them stand out from the crowd,
whether it's a better-than-average offer or a unique product that can't be found
anywhere else. The idea here is to understand their competitive edge and how to exploit
it to grow their business. They must remember that rather than copying their opponents'
plan, they must concentrate on their own advantages. They can promote their brand
and attract customers by utilizing unique selling characteristics. They must focus on
having a diverse customer base while also targeting smaller, more targeted customers.

Finally, Roti Canai Budak Sekolah must deliver outstanding customer service.
Providing excellent and memorable customer service is a wonderful approach for
businesses to establish customer loyalty and set themselves apart from the
competition. They must prioritise selecting employees that have a thorough
understanding of not only their products, but their entire brand. Customers should be
greeted with a pleasant grin, and employees should express gratitude to people with
whom they engage. They should take a problem-solving attitude and solicit customer
input on a regular basis. Client-centric businesses rely on dependable employees to
increase customer happiness. Even if they believe their customer service team is
performing at its peak, they can almost certainly improve it. There is no time limit on the
journey of aligning their customer service team with the company values and always
prioritizing the customer experience.

4.1.2 Maintain a spirit work

Creating a well-functioning team can benefit both the employees and the company they
work for. However, because every workplace is made up of people with different
perspectives, it might be difficult to foster the desired team spirit. Building great
teamwork has numerous advantages, including increased production and efficiency,
improved understanding, and a more positive work environment. It is critical to boost
their employees' team spirit. As a business owner, one of their top

19
responsibilities should be to develop, maintain, and improve team spirit because it is
the only way to create a productive, problem-free organization. She may believe that
as a manager at Roti Canai Budak Sekolah, boosting team spirit is out of her reach,
but the truth is that there are many things she can do to improve the culture of her
organization. Here are some of the ways that can encourage team spirit and create a
healthy team culture in an organization.

It's difficult to develop team spirit solely via hard work. Employees, understandably,
require a way to relieve stress and relax. When people are unable to cope with work-
related stress, they become unproductive. That's why having a day off is so vital for
fostering a positive work environment. This is also an excellent opportunity to
strengthen ties among coworkers. Taking a day off can help employees not only create
better relationships with their coworkers, but it can also help them be more productive.
Organize casual get-togethers during the week and on sometimes on the weekend in
order to promote a sense of community. Splitting employees into teams and starting
competitive challenges like paintball or team sports is also a wonderful idea. These
activities will only strengthen the bonds between co-workers.

When most business owners go to work, they put on their professional masks and take
them off when they get home. However, expressing gratitude at work has been shown
to boost employee self-esteem and trust. Gratitude is a wonderful approach to express
gratitude for someone's efforts. Let's not forget that everything starts at the top, thus if
the owner expresses thanks for someone's job, such behaviors will spread across the
organization. It is critical to be grateful for both the big and minor contributions that
employees make to the organization. People will surely feel better about themselves if
the thanks are sincere.

Finally, without appropriate communication within their organization, it is hard to form

an effective team. As we all know, effective communication is at the heart of strong
teamwork. This does not mean that team members must agree on everything; rather,
they must talk through their differences, share ideas, get feedback, and collaborate on
brainstorming. They must set a distinct tone while talking within their organization to
improve communication. It is critical to recognize that people must enhance their
listening skills in order to encourage two-way communication or dialogue. Everyone in
the organization must be able to communicate and express

20
themselves freely. This will allow for improved idea flow, and team members will form
bonds over time, allowing them to be more efficient. To achieve a high level of team
spirit, team members must have a shared knowledge of how to assist one another
during difficult times, which is only achievable with strong communication.
Misunderstandings happen as a result of a lack of effective and open communication,
which eventually stifle the organization's team spirit and workflow.

4.1.3 Supplies in raw materials

The most crucial aspect of Roti Canai Budak Sekolah's business is raw materials. They
will be unable to operate the business the next day if raw materials are in short supply.
They are facing issues with raw material sources and inventory management, both of
which come from the suppliers itself. They must, by any necessary means, overcome
this problem in order to conduct business. As a nutshell, here are some options that
they may need to implement to solve the shortage of raw materials.

The first step is to make their supplier feel like a valuable member of their team. Great
suppliers are hard to come by, thus having a good supplier management plan is crucial.
Too many companies only communicate with their suppliers when they place an order or
when something goes wrong. They will perform better if they keep their source
informed. To make them feel more responsibility to the Roti Canai Budak Sekolah
business, the manager should explain their goals. The management must also
construct and communicate performance measures in order to praise suppliers for their
excellent work, which has increased the company's income. Face-to-face business
reviews with the supplier are also required. They invite the supplier to eat at the stall
for free in order to have a face-to-face discussion. The more their supplier feels like a
member of their team, the more they'll be able to assist them in eliminating material
shortages.

The manager must also not be blinded by expense. Concentrating solely on

price might result in longer lead times, lower-quality products, fewer responsive
suppliers, higher labor expenses, and other issues. As a result, many top-tier
manufacturers are shifting away from low-cost nation sourcing and toward best-value
sourcing. The latter considers the relationship's total cost of ownership (TCO) and the
value it provides. While the sale price will always be the most important consideration,

21
today's best practices recommend that companies should consider other factors as
well. Lead times, supplier flexibility, risk management, and the supplier's ability to
improve are examples of these. By incorporating all of these elements into their supply
chain architecture, they will be able to avoid shortages and boost margins. Shortages
will never go away completely, but the capacity to decrease them can provide them a
competitive advantage.

Finally, to overcome the difficulty obtaining raw material through improving

business forecasting. Manufacturers employ a Sales, Inventory, and Operations
Planning (SIOP) approach to determine what potential future demand they would face
to estimate demand more correctly. The SIOP process involves updating a company's
operating plan on a regular basis, which might be monthly or more frequently as
needed. Improved forecasting can help a manufacturer and their suppliers plan for
when they'll need parts, reducing lead times by producing more exact short-term
predictions. Manufacturers may know how much stock they have now, but forecasting a
week, a month, or even many months in advance is more difficult. Planning teams can
use historical data to forecast what will happen in the near future, thereby avoiding a
stockout.

5.0 CONCLUSION

We believe Roti Canai Budak Sekolah will be more successful after following the
correct process in running the business based on the business model canvas (BMC),
because the preparation and planning in every step of the business will become clearer
and details will be easier to understand, making it easier to achieve success in
marketing their products.

Since this is a family business that has been in existence for over 3 years,
comprehensive research should be conducted, including determining the best plan for
the course of business operations, identifying revenue streams, target customers,
products, and costs. As a result, the present BMC is extremely advantageous since it
provides Roti Canai Budak Sekolah with a model that allows them to understand the
nature of business in a holistic, methodical, uncomplicated, and easy manner. This is
due to the fact that this model provides a holistic view of the entire business, from
customers to partners, market to sales, and cost of production.

These BMC strengths assist us in identifying challenges that products can solve as well
as analyzing competitors' strengths and weaknesses. Furthermore, we are able to
address their customers' problems and deliver additional unique value, resulting in
customer loyalty to their products.

Finally, seeing as BMC is a good medium for marketing research and helps us identify
good revenue channels, the owner is able to demonstrate the ability to maximize
revenue by minimizing production costs because she is familiar with the business
operations and can estimate costs for each phase of product production.
