Case – 5

JIO
1)
 Apart from the challenges, Jio was successful in disrupting the
Indian telecom industry and kicking off the data revolution.
 Jio rapidly acquired Infotel, and in 2015, it expanded its spectrum
holdings by purchasing spectrum in the 1800 MHz and 850 MHz
bands.
 In 2002, Mukesh Ambani founded Reliance Infocomm, a company
that offers low-cost calls, free inbound calls, and no-cost value-
added services.
 Jio also struck an arrangement with Anil's insolvent Reliance to
help them get access to a dependable broadband network.
 They even agreed to share resources with Airtel, such as an optical
fibre network, towers, and a submarine cable network.
 They implemented the world's largest optical fibre network as
well as fiber-connected towers.
 - They provided a variety of services at the same time, including
instant messaging, live television, on-demand movies, news,
streaming music, and a digital payment platform.
 - They announced the LYF smartphone, which came with a free Jio
SIM and a year of unlimited free Internet and calling.
 - Jio adopted effective distribution and price methods, posing a
threat to its rivals.
 - They used aggressive marketing methods to acquire more
customers, including celebrity endorsements.
 - Jio began offering free home delivery of Jio SIM cards and
established Wi-Fi hotspots in schools, colleges, and other public
places across India.

2) IDEA: They had 4G services in 750 cities and 10 telecom circles. They also
intended to buy spectrum.
BSNL: Its main purpose was to create a network to the entire country. In
terms of broadband services, they held a 60 percent market share. They
have a whopping 101.11 million customers. In 2016, this state-owned
firm planned to launch 4G service in 14 telecom circles where it
controlled spectrum in the 2500 MHz band.

AIRTEL: They engaged in analytics to respond to Jio's rate cuts, and in

August 2016, the pre-paid connection consumers' 4G mobile network
tariffs were slashed by 80%. Despite the fact that the content was not up
to par, Airtel continued to offer Wynk music, other games, and movie
screening apps. Airtel got 4G spectrum in only four of the 22 circles
available in the 2010 auction. Qualcomm was purchased by Airtel.

VODAFONE: They had suggested spending $500 million in only two

years on their 3G networks. In 2016, they began offering 4G network
internet services in Kozhikode. They had spectrum in eight circles rather
than the nine circles they had intended, thus they planned to buy
spectrum at the September 2016 auction or through spectrum trading.
