output. Points to check: z-value, normal curve presentation, solution, and answer.

According to a study, the average number of hours of TV viewing per household per week in the Philippines is 50.4 hours
and the standard deviation is 11.8 hours. If a sample of 42 households is taken, what is the probability that:
     (a) the sample average is more than 52 hours?
     (b) the sample average is less than 47.5 hours?
     (c) the sample average is between 48 and 53 hours?

(Hint: Recall that average is synonymous with mean.)

(2 pts.)

(a)

𝑃(𝑥 > 52) =?

-Therefore, the
50% − 31. 09% = probability of having a
18. 94% sample mean larger than
52 is 18.94%
𝑃(𝑥 > 52) = 18. 94%

 (b)
𝑃(𝑥 > 52) =? -We
can determine the
probability of getting a
=50%-44.41%=5.59%
sample mean lower
𝑃(𝑥 > 52) = 5. 59%than 47.5 is 5.59%

 (c)
48−50.4
  𝑧1 = 11.8 =
42
𝑃(48 < 𝑥 < 53) = -We can assume that
𝑧1 =− 1. 32
𝑃(− 1. 32 < 𝑧 < 1. 43) the probability of a
53−50.4 = 40. 66% + 42. 36% = sample mean between
𝑧2 = 11.8 =
42 83.02% 48 and 53 is 83.02%

  𝑧2=1.43
