Title of Work: Seat

“Seat”

Chair. It is commonly known that the primary use for a chair is for a person to sit
in which can vary in every way a person would like it to be. Since the elderly
generations, it used to signify someone of a high standing which exemplifies a
throne of a king, queen, emperor, empress, prince, or princesses. But in the
common age, it is generally used for dining, lying for a relaxed position, comfort,
or work-related purposes that correspond to the needs and wants of the person.
Moreover, it can be used as an accessible step stool to reach objects from higher
planes, thus also having many more goals to support different parts of the body.
Chairs have these extreme artistic significances, and they have been known to
make a statement by artists and industrial designers. There are many different
materials and ways they can be designed; the sky's the limit. Chairs can take an
ordinary inanimate object and make them lifelike, unique, and beautiful. This
uniqueness creates also different functions to which one can take the chair in the
picture as a great example of unique chair design which we mostly used in
dining. A few chairs also can be seen as one of the works of arts, and that could
be seen from Martino Gamper's work. However, this chair in particular evokes
goodwill and comfort where it expresses a common Filipino culture. As a Filipino
living in a squatter area, it reminds me of the chair that we used to have,
unbalanced but still sittable, incompatible but still suitable, but overall, it just feels
like the Philippines culture overall due to its unique design.
Visual observation and description

STYLE: Do things appear in this photo as we see them in real life, or are they stylized?
Where in the work do you see this?

Observation (description only): The picture portrays a real scenery that we can see in
reality in our everyday lives. It is a chair, in which is used to be a tool for sitting. Nothing
was stylized or edited in such accord, it is taken from a real-life material.

Analysis (thoughts about the effect on the viewer): The picture wants the viewer to
focus on the chair as it insinuates the hospitality in the Philippines which contributes
upon the beauty of the character of Filipinos.

COLOR: Are colors warm or cold, bright or muted? Are there many colors or just a few?

Observation: The colors presented are brown which indicates the serene Filipino
culture, a sufficient yellow color (not too bright and not too dull) as it is for illustrating a
cool and happy atmosphere within the chair.

Analysis: The colors presented are a blend of bright and warm but also showcases a
level of dullness where it contributes to tranquility. The colors presented brings peace
and tranquility to the viewer but also with the sunlight it showcases a happy feeling.

LINE: What words capture the quality of line in this work? Are there different kinds?

Observation: The lines captured are mostly shown from the subject which is the chair.
In the subject, we can see that there are some diagonal lines that intersect two vertical
and horizontal lines, and a curvature in the front of the picture. The majority we see in
the pictures are vertical and horizontal lines.

Analysis: The lines depend upon the point of view of the picture. In the picture, we can
see that we can see a curvature in the front of the chair due to the way the picture was
captured.

COMPOSITION: How are the visual elements of the work arranged? Do they seem
balanced? Is there one focus in particular, or does your eye move around the painting in
a particular way?
Observation: The picture presented is balanced to the point that the picture itself wants
you to focus on the item itself which is the chair. The picture is very one-dimensional
that it might lack depth surrounding the subject.

Analysis: The chair sticks out the most since the pictures focuses directly on the chair,
however, the reason is mainly due to the composition since it wholly distributes itself
towards the significance of the subject in which is the chair.
