Final Assessment:
Mini Individual Term Paper
Total: 40 Marks
Due Date: 19th September 2021 or earlier

Instructions for writing a good term paper: (20 Pages Term paper)
1. Length of Individual Term Paper (20 pages excluding references)
Conduct a simple study by examining factors affecting positive developmental growth in
adolescents namely in one of the following developmental growth:

i) possessing good moral conduct,


ii) have excellent leadership qualities,
iii) talented in curricular or co-curricular activities (sports, societies etc in school or
community)
iv) excellent academic achievement
v) multi-talented
OR
2. Select one developmental issues affecting adolescents:
i) Substance Abuse
ii) Identity or Gender-related issues (LGBT)
iii) Sexuality & Teen Pregnancy
iv) Learning disabilities
v) Self-image & Eating disorder
vi) Mental health issues – mood disorders, anxiety disorders, thought disorders,
psychosocial disorders

3. Method involved:
i) You can conduct document analysis
ii) You can also conduct a simple survey
iii) You may do a case study of two adolescents

4. Structure of your paper:

i) An introduction – introduces & creates context for your subject and topic,
describes the structure of your essay – focus on one particular issue and state
why it is important for you to conduct a study on this. Support your arguments
with evidences from secondary and primary source (5 Marks)
ii) Body of you essay:–
- Literature review - you may progress to conducting and reporting studies
done related to your issues / constructs under investigation – state your
own original opinion about what you think of studies that you have read.
(10 marks)

- Identify salient points or important points- rewrite these points in your


essay in support of what you think about the topic under investigation.
You may use the following question in you interview sessions –
a) what are the factors affecting adolescents who experience identity
issues (LGBT) – identify and explain clearly
b) What is your opinion about these factors? Discuss clearly
c) State your stand on this matter from societal point of view or spiritual
point of view etc.
d) What are the current status of their psychological well-being?
Vulnerable?
e) What is the nature of help-seeking patterns among adolescents with
LGBT issues?
f) What is the level of family and general society acceptance level of
LGBT adolescents?
g) Are LGBT adolescents socially well-adjusted?
h) Who are their circle of friends?
i) Are they open about their gender orientation or choice?
j) Where do they go after they have completed their schooling?
k) Do they get accepted by high learning institutions and employment
after graduation?
l) What is the government policies as regard to this issue and what is the
authority stand on this matter? Discuss.
m) Identify their needs
n) State your stand on this matter and make recommendations to the
stakeholders – policy makers, curriculum designers, Pejabat
Pendidikan Daerah, MOE, Kementerian Pembangunan Wanita,
Keluarga dan Kanak-kanak. Etc.

iii) Interview / Conduct Document Analysis related to this matter & Report
Writing - You may conduct interview based on the above set of questions
with these adolescents by keeping their identity strictly confidential and write
you comprehensive report of your findings and recommendations
(10 Marks)
iv) Your conclusion
(5 Marks)

Note: Confidential Letter - Write a letter ascertaining confidentiality of the


conversation and content of their discussion – sign by both of you
5. APA Writing Format may include:
i) Font – Times New Roman
ii) Font size – 12
iii) Spacing – 1.5
iv) Front page – indicating content and page number
v) Citation – cite only surname and year in your citations ie (Carpenter & Jones,
2020) – at the end of your sentence. At the beginning ie – According to
Carpenter and Jones (2020)…..
vi) References – Full references must be written at the back of your essay
vii) Your i) Title on the front page, ii) course name and course code, iii) your
name and matric number on the front page.
