LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION

Dear Admissions Committee,

I am writing this letter with great pride to recommend Bui Hoang Minh as an applicant to your
institution.

In my two and a half years of knowing Hoang Minh as his homeroom teacher, this young man
has continually surprised me by his determination and activeness. Witnessing his growth both
within Foreign Language Specialized School and outside has allowed me to fully understand the
extent to which Hoang Minh can blossom under right environment.

At first glance, Hoang Minh did not give off any notable impressions. He was more introverted
compared to the rest of the male students in my class. He would not speak much in class and
would rarely contribute to the lessons. Howerver, he absorbed everything that was taught quickly
and quite efficiently, so he was able to performed well in examinations. Overall, Hoang Minh
was an above average student in all subjects but one: literature. In the first semester of 10 th grade,
he struggled and only scored 6.5 which was just enough to get by. Feeling frustrated, he pushed
himself to study. I even recollected hearing one of the student said that during free time in their
one-week trip military training, Hoang Minh would mumble to himself the poems that were in
the books in order to remember them by heart. As a result of his hard work and commitment

Additionally, he would sometimes refuse to participate in the activities that the upperclassmen
organize to bond the first-years together. However, as he got more familiar with his friends, he
began to express his energy more. At first, Hoang Minh volunteered as a performer for the 50 th
anniversary of the school, which greatly intrigued me as I believed that he was not interested in
such extracurricular activites. After that, he became more active, joining the school’s basketball
club, making videos for his friends and acting in plays for the class.
