Topic 7: Many people argue that in order to improve educational quality, high

school students are encouraged to make comments or even criticism on their

teachers. Others think it will lead to loss of respect and discipline in the
classroom. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

In recent decades, whether high school students should be free to evaluate and
criticise their educators have evolved into a major topic of concern. While some
people think that disrespect and indiscipline are unavoidable outcomes of this
approach, it is also widely belived that it would result in increased educational
quality. From my perspective, although there is no doubt that this proposal
theoretically can enhance teaching standard, its practice must be carefully executed
so as to maintain order and the collective benefit of all students in the classroom.

To commence with, supporters of giving students total freedom in expressing their

thoughts towards teachers leading to educational quality’s upgradation have their
own justifications. First and foremost, this kind of open discussion may provide
teachers with a chance to better their pedagogical skills. Apparently, feedbacks of
learners will help tutors find out their mistakes during the procedure. For example,
the teachers may teach too fast that students are not able to understand; in this case,
thanks to learners’ responses, teachers could adjust their speeds and methods so
that students could fully retain the knowledge. Secondly, having a chance to point
out flaws of their teachers will be a contributor to the amelioration of students’
school performance. If students have a freedom to get things off their chest, they
will no longer feel restricted, exasperated and bear a grudge against their teachers
due to their errors, which rusult in less intense ambience in class and much more
learners’ concentration on their task assignments.
On the other hand, improper execution of the aforementioned theory can cause
some detrimental impacts. First, Iin the process of giving and receiving negative
feedbacks, direct arguments between teachers and students in the classroom are
unavoidable. As some high school students are generally immature, these
quarrels easily give rise to disorder and cause the individuals involved to lose
their temper, and inappropriate words can be spoken. Furthermore, the problem
can be further exacerbated when all the students see their peers heaping scorn on
the teachers. Learners may think of such action as the right way to behave and start
to imitate it because they are all gotton round to the idea that their teachers are not
infallible by their classmates. The respect for teachers may therefore be lost, which
means the classroom learning environment may be detrimentally affected.
In conclusion, the advantages of allowing students having feedbacks on their
educators are undeniable regarding the betterment of training quality at campus.
Yet, it is imperative that this policy should be impremented with an utmost
prudence and comtemplation to rule out the possibility of indisciplinary and
inmoral actions of students towards their teachers.
