Control Philosophy for Nitric Acid recovery system

MF

1. The purpose of 8” line carrying recycle of 145 m3/hr from MF rentatate having
AV-107 is to be clarified.
2. In case of high permeate flow from MF membrane, PID 100 should control the
flow till maximum TMP that membrane can handle. Beyond that, inlet flow rate
should be adjusted through VFD
3. In case of low permeate flow from MF, AV-105 should control the flow.
4. PFD equipment tagging is to be revised. (T-306 should be T-302).
5. 30m3/hr line coming through AV-102 is to be clarified.
6. Sampling point is required on permeate line.

UF

1. In case of high permeate flow from UF, V-213 (should be auto butterfly valve)
should control the flow till maximum TMP that membrane can handle. Beyond
that, inlet flow rate should be adjusted through VFD.
2. In case of low permeate flow from UF, V-205 (should be auto butterfly valve)
should control the flow
3. PT/PG on permeate line.
4. Retantate line through V-208 going to MF permeate tank is to be clarified
7. PFD equipment tagging is to be revised. (T-308 should be T-702).

Process

1. Nitric acid + Xylose (Nitric acid stream) is coming at ______m 3/hr in T-401
(10m3 capacity).
2. Check the LI of T-401 for ensure the volume of nitric acid stream (10m3).
3. Start pump P 402 (5m3/hr) and pump P 101 (150m3/hr)
4. Close PID 100 in the permeate line so that nitric acid stream circulates through
membrane (if required or we are directly starting it)
5. Adjust the PID 100 and AV 105 so as to get permeate flow rate of 4m 3/hr. If
permeate flow rate in above 4m3/hr then adjust PID 100 to achieve 4m 3/hr flow
rate till maximum TMP of membrane is reached. If permeate flow is still higher
then inlet flow should be lowered through VFD 101.
6. If permeate flow rate is lower than 4m3/hr, them AV 105 should be adjusted to
achieve 4m3/hr flow rate.
7. Retentate of MF, coming at 1m3/hr, is to be collected in T 302 (___m 3) (T 306 in
permionix PFD) (Tank before decanter in nitric acid system).
8. Permeate of the MF, coming at 4 m3/hr is to be collected in T 103 (5m3).
9. Permeate sample should be collected from SP 100 and retentate sample should be
collected from _______

Process

1. Nitric acid + Xylose (Nitric acid stream) is coming at 4m3/hr .

2. Start pump P 201 (4m3/hr) and pump P 202 (20m3/hr).
3. Close V 213 in the permeate line so that nitric acid stream circulates through
membrane (if required or we are directly starting it)
4. Adjust the V 213 and V 205 so as to get permeate flow rate of 3.2m 3/hr. If
permeate flow rate in above 3.2m3/hr then adjust PID 100 to achieve 3.2m 3/hr
flow rate till maximum TMP of membrane is reached. If permeate flow is still
higher then inlet flow should be lowered through VFD 202.
5. If permeate flow rate is lower than 3.2m 3/hr, them V 205 should be adjusted to
achieve 3.2m3/hr flow rate.
6. Retentate of NF, coming at 0.8m3/hr, is to be collected in T 202 (3m3).
7. Check the level in T 202. Open V 211 when T 202 is full and start pump P 203
8. Permeate of the NF, coming at 3.2 m 3/hr is to be collected in T 702 (T 308 in
pemeonix PFD) (HNO3 recycle tank 15m3).
9. Permeate sample should be collected from SP 202 and retentate sample should be
collected from SP 201
