1. Adam Smith was in favour of free trade because it promotes division of labor and increases income. In his

theory of absolute advantage, he said that it is not good to make a product if it is cheaper to buy it.

2. The benefits of international trade are: improvement of the standard of living, acceleration of economic

development, stimulation of production, generation of foreign exchange earnings, promotion of product

specialization, and increase of consumer’s satisfaction.

3. The bases of trade are price, technology and natural resources. Such factors are not the same in every

country. Naturally, people buy from a country with the lowest price and sell to a country with the highest

price. Countries with better technologies and surplus natural resources are in the best position to reduce
