• The KONE UniDriveTM for automatic sliding door control units is designed to open and close sliding doors as
reliably as possible and to grant persons a safe passage.
• If the door operator is damaged, if persons are injured or damage is inflicted in any other way by improper use or
by improper application of technical data and/or equipment KONE DEURSYSTEMEN BV will accept no
liability, supply parts under guarantee, or carry out repairs.
• Only Qualified persons should carry out electrical connections to the electricity mains.
• Programming of motor types and input functions may only be carried out by manufacturer trained and
certified persons. (see § 1.6 for starting up cycle).
• Electrical connections to- or on the PCB should only be carried out after switching off the line and the optional
battery power supply.
It has the ability to drive a variety of different dc motor type’s (programmable with the PSION programmer),
locking devices and sensor type’s for both opening and safety.
Max door weight : DS = 2 x 120 kg. or ES 1 x 180 kg. with the UniDriveTM motor.
The desired locking device type and output voltages are selectable by dipswitch- and or jumper settings.
Optional: - With the extension more functions are programmable.
- For power fail operation, a battery unit or a battery board are available.

To be able to set some default parameters without use of the PSION programmer the learning button is used.
By pressing the button when the door is in automatic mode and reached its closed position, the Learning Mode is
entered. During the learning cycle a “beep” is activated.
The user moves the door with the desired opening speed to its max open position, wait for the desired opening
time, and close the door with the desired closing speed to the maximum closed position.
The buzzer stops and the UniDriveTM is ready to use.
(Last learned speed is stored)
For winter open position, first press the winter mode button to switch on the winter mode.
Then press the learning button, the buzzer is switched on and the desired winter position is selected by moving the
door by hand to the desired winter open position. Then the door is closed by hand.
When the door reached its closed position again, the learning mode is exited.
Again pressing the learning button for will quit the learning mode.
Important: Before switching on the power supply it is very important that, in case of an existing motor, it is
ensured that the motor doesn’t have any short circuit to earth. (use a digital measure tool for the right
measurement), and the motor cable is minimum 3 x 0.75 mm².
If the PGS function was “closed” before the power supply was switched off and again on, the door will not open.
The led above the symbol “closed” will flash in that case to show the UniDriveTM waiting.
All movements are carried out in low speed.
After switching on the power supply, the control unit will carry out a self test.
The PGS is switched now to “open” position.
First it is necessary to program (by using the psion) the motor type.
After the correct motor is selected the PGS is set to automatic function.
If the motor is not programmed and the PGS is direct set to “automatic” the default motor is selected. (see § 2.8)
Direct after programming the motor and PGS change, a complete internal processor test is carried out.
Next the door will complete close is pressed extra to closed direction to set the correct parameters.
(If the doors opens first check dipswitch nr..3 )
After reaching the maximum closed position, the door will open to find the maximum open position.
The doors should reach the end stops.

When the selection winter position opening is set, either by use of the Program switch or programmable input, the
UniDriveTM will open the door only until the selected winter opening position is reached.
The UniDriveTM will only open at the maximum opening width when Delay Winter-position is counted to 0, (and
not set to be 0 sec), every 25th opening movement when spring cord is selected (to test motor control system), or
the selection is undone by the user.
Except from Delay Winter-position timer, software can not overrule this setting.
Winter opening width = minimum 600 mm. (single) or 900 mm. (double).
Remember that the Delay Winter-position timer is disabled when partially open is selected.
Open position in winter-mode can be set from 0-100%, where 0% is 600 mm for double doors and 100% the
maximum open position.
This unit consists of a battery board, and 3 battery’s 12V 0.8 Ah.
The battery set is tested, approximately one minute after the UniDriveTM is switched on.
When the door is opened by a valid open command, the door will open on battery power, presses in its end position
for about 15 sec, then close on battery-power.
This is visible as different behaviour of the door operator but it is a normal test procedure..
When the door is not opened by a valid open-command or is not allowed to close, the door is pressed into its end
position (either in open- or in closed position) for about 20 sec.
After that, the test is repeated every 4 or 24 hours. (Programmable by Psion).
A failure in battery capacity is signalled in the control box service display, the buzzer, and on the PGS (special sign
of a key ). By using the Psion programmer, the battery error can be signalled only.
When the user has selected the open-movement on battery failure, the door can only be closed, by selecting the
closed position on the Program switch. The closing speed is carried out in slow speed to indicate the re-warning.
Pressing the RESET button will clear the warning and the UniDriveTM can operate normally (and charge the
battery) for 50 minutes. After that the battery is tested again.
When no battery unit is used, a wire link must be present on the connector on the control unit (see 1.2.1)
Only one battery, mounted on the battery board, used to open the sliding door ones, directly at power failure. Door
weight and used door-type are limited.
Only a locking device which is powerless unlocked can be used.
The battery pack is tested, approximately one minute after the UniDriveTM is switched on and repeated every 24 or
4 hours, depends on programmable setting by Psion.
During this test the voltage of the battery is monitored. When a failure is detected during the test, the test stops.
A failure in battery capacity is signalled in the control box service display, and on the electronic Program switch.
This warning can reset itself, when the minimum battery capacity is reached.
In this stage, the test frequency is increased to 50 minutes test. When a failure is detected during the test, the test
stops. In case of a battery failure, the user has the ability to overrule the default error open or close state.
In this case only PGS and service display signal the battery error.
No further changes are made in door behaviour.
When the user has selected the open-movement on battery failure, the door can only be closed, by selecting the
closed position on the Program switch.
The door closing cycle will be carried out in slow speed to indicate the warning again.
Pressing the RESET button will clear the warning and the UWS can operate normally (and charge the battery) for
50 minutes. After that the battery is tested again.
When no battery unit is used, a wire link must be present on the connector on the UniDriveTM control unit.
Installation of the 2-wired UWS PGS adapter into the Unidrive connection terminal
At starting-up, the PGS software version is shown on the 7-segments display, and all LED’s will be switched on.
As soon as the UniDriveTM control-box starts its communication with the PGS, the LED’s will be switched of,
except the LED that indicates the selected setting.
Following selections or programming functions can be made on:
Programming:
-By pushing the RESET button for at least 5 seconds the programming mode is opened.
-In the programming mode all LED’s and the display as well are flashing.
-By pushing the corresponding button, the value can be changed.
-By repeated pushing of this button the value is increasing until 9. After that it counts again from 0, etc.
-On the Display of the PGS the actual adjustment is shown.
WO Winteropen width 0, 1, 2, 3 0, 1, 2, 3

To leave the programming mode push the RESET button. (Or wait 30 sec)..
After programming, press RESET button to switch back to normal mode.
When no button is pressed during Program-Mode for 20 sec, the PGS will automatically switch over to normal
mode. For the codes shown on the Program switch see service manual UWS.

Construction
The 2nd (tandem) motor is mounted into the rail with a special bracket, including the tensioner for the belt,
besides the subframe. (The existing endwheel has to removed).
The subframe is about 300mm longer now;
The sliding nuts are pushed into the mounting rail and fixed by turning them clockwise.
Connection
The 2nd motor is connected to the master motor in serial (see diagram on next page)
Encoder: The master encoder is connected to the control unit.
The slave encoder is not used and not connected.
Set
1. UniDrive motor with mounting plate and pulley (excl. encoder
cable),
2. Toothed belt; length 7000 mm (extra length subframe/motor-
endwheel: + 380mm)
3. Instruction
4. Adaption to link both motors to the control unit.
Adjustments
After switching on the line power the UniDrive is starting up.
Next the UniDrive PGS is forced on “open” position to be able to program
the right motor type: see Manual UniDrive.
Safety
After initialisation the control unit calculates the right door weight.
Next the computer will choose the heaviest door weight level [7] (door weight 210-240kg).
The maximum speeds for level 7 are now active. (90%).
Conclusion:
The door-installation needs additional safeties (use a risk analysis)!

Together with the Photocell test, any input programmed at Side screen protection (TST_Safety Slow or
TST_Safety Stop will be tested as well.
This happens by switching the “test 12/24V” output witch is available close to the input 1-4 connections. When the
“test 12/24V” is switched, a reaction from the connection “12/24V Test > Sensor reaction” is expected. When no
(proper) reaction is detected, an error is generated.
To meet either current or future EN-normative regulations, the UniDriveTM software is supplied with a obstacle
detection system. An obstacle detection signal is generated whenever:
- Force to move the door will exceed certain limits,
- Door speed is reduced by an external force,
- Difference between requested speed and current speed will be (and stay) more than a certain limit.
- When movement direction is opposite the expected direction.
The obstacle detection sensitivity (height of the limits) can be set separately for both closing and opening of the
door.
In practice the obstacle detection signal is generated before the door is fully stopped by the user.
When the speed of the door is reduced by an external force (user) the UniDriveTM control box will rapidly reduce
the door speed down to zero, so dynamic forces are reduced as much as possible.
When the obstacle detection signal is generated during the closing cycle of the door, the movement of the door is
stopped as soon as possible.
At a closing door, the door will now open at normal speed, stay open for the time defined by the Stay open timer
added with the self-increasing obstacle timer.
The self-increasing time is defined as Stay-open timer + x-times event. (2-4-8-12 seconds)
When the door closes, it will run in low speed
When the closing movement is interrupted by an obstacle detection signal at the same position for more than 3
times in a row, the door will use this point at a virtual closing position.
The exact position is stored in the UniDriveTM control box memory.
When the obstacle detection signal is generated during the opening cycle of the door, the movement of the door is
