Problem 1
Claes Fulland owns three parcels of land of 12 , 8 , and 15 hectares. If he sells a total of 18
hectares, how many hectares will be left?

Solution:
12 + 8 + 15 − 18 = ?

= 12 + 8 + 15 + ( ) − 18

= 35 + − 18

= 35 + 1 − 18

= 36 − 18  36 − 18

= (36 − 18) + ( )

Problem 2
Cormoran Clothand sells different types of cloth. He cuts a bolt of cloth containing 100 yards into
single-pants cut of 1 ¼ yards each.
a. Into how many pieces was the bolt cut?
b. If Cormoran sells the cloth at P150 per cut, how much will the entire bolt sell.
c. If he bought the bolt at P90 per yard, how much is his gross profit?
Solution:
a. Pieces of bolt
100 ÷ 1  ÷ =?
= x

= 80 pieces
b. Amount of sales
80 pieces x P150 per cut = P12,000

c. Gross Profit= Total Sales – Total Cost

= P12,000 – (100 x P90)
= P12,000 – P9,000
= P3,000
Problem 3
Peony Handyman can finish weaving a basket in 1 ¼ hours. If he works 8 hours a day, 5 days
a week, how many baskets can he finish in a week’s time?

Solution:
8 ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑠 ÷ 1 ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑠 x 5 days = ?

= ÷ x5

= 𝑥 𝑥

= 32 baskets
Problem 4
Brian bought a gamer’s chair for P50,000. He paid 3/5 of this amount as down payment.
His mother gave him ¼ of the down payment.

a. How much was the down payment made by Brian?

b. How much did his mother give him?
c. What fractional part of the total cost was the amount given by his mother?
d. How much of the down payment was shouldered by Brian?
e. What fractional part of the total cost was the down payment paid by Brian?
f. What fractional part of the total cost would Brian pay?
Solution:
