The last requirement of the Capstone Project prior to your presentation is to reflect on the

process by writing a final journal reflection on your process and final product addressing the
following questions. You will need to answer ALL required questions WITH DETAILED
RESPONSES.

Final Capstone Reflection Journal Entry

The Capstone is a unique and demanding challenge. In completing it, what did you learn
about your subject? Your skill set? Yourself?
During this capstone process, I learned that there is so many more complex aspects of the
game of volleyball than meets the eye. When you really dive in and analyze the sport of
volleyball it becomes such an eye opening experience. I learned that when I truly apply myself
to become better at the sport with hard work, I can make amazing progress to support my skills.
It also really brought to light the fact that I am a quick learner and can really build off
professional advice and be teachable.
How is your project relevant to you, the school or the community-at-large?
This project is of course very relevant to me because of my want to pursue volleyball further.
And I believe others who come to see the project who are aspiring to play more or get into
volleyball will appreciate the advice given and act on it. They could also see how simple it is to
improve on a task when you really set your mind to it and try.
What impact if any did your Capstone project have?
I believe it had a great impact on my understanding of the game and made me appreciate all
the little things much more. And as I am now on a club volleyball team, I also believe it helped
improve my skill to make it in the first place.
Thinking about the whole process and your finished product, what are you most proud
of?
After working on this project, I am most proud of my improvement mentally and physically
towards the sport and the growth I achieved. I knew what I had to do and really worked on
myself.
What was a difficulty you encountered and how did you solve the problem?
My biggest difficulty was definitely finding the time and place where I was able to my progress.
It is very difficult to get open gym time especially to myself hence why a lot of my clips are from
friendly games and minimal sessions. My best way to overcome it was to really cram all my
work into the short amount of sessions and get as much volume as possible.
What is one thing about your finished project you wish you could change? Why?
I really do wish I was able to get more sessions where I could train single skills in dense
amounts. I feel it would’ve improved my focus more and my ability to really target what I was
going for rather than having each skill divided when in games. This most likely would’ve helped
the end product of this project and added more length.
What advice would you give to a student who will be completing their Capstone Project
next year?
The advice I would give is to choose something that you are genuinely passionate about and
want to improve on. I find when you actually care about what you are working on, it really
motivates you to do it even more is actually fun along the way. So whatever it is your either
researching, building, or learning about, really make sure you have a genuine interest.
What source from your research helped you the most? (or least?).
Sources were very difficult to find for me considering the subject has very little reliable research
pieces that supported my topic and what I was improving on. But if I can count my mentor as a
source that I learned from, I would say it was the best selection of information I could’ve gotten
over any research paper. Coming from a former professional university player, the knowledge
was vital to my understanding on how to further elaborate my skills.
What is one thing about your approach to your project that you wish you could change?
Why?
A different approach I could’ve taken on my project to further improve it is most definitely the
fact that I wish I began my filming and select skill focus work earlier. I put if off longer than I
needed which limited my time but not to the extent of reaching a below par final product. This
would’ve relieved a lot of stress that I received later on in the semester and helped have a
clearer mind to further work on the project. Yet overall, I am satisfied with the outcome and am
excited what this progress can do to lead me even further into my passion for volleyball.
