APM Recommendation Question (1 RPT But 2 Recommendations 1 For Routine and 1 For TA)
APM Recommendation Question (1 RPT But 2 Recommendations 1 For Routine and 1 For TA)
have a few questions that have come up recently and figured I would copy the reliability group in case
anyone else is running into these.
1. You Have Performed A Routine Inspection. The inspection resulted in multiple
recommendations for repairs. Most of the recommendations can be done on the run, but one
(1) must be done during a turnaround or outage.
a. Do the contract inspectors have to Create Two (2) Recommendations under the same
report, ⤑ 1 for routine recommendations, ⤑ and 1 for turnaround or outage
recommendations?
b. I would assume the answer would be yes, since each recommendation gets assigned a
“MI‐Routine” or “MI‐Turnaround Priority” but wanted to make sure.
2. Confidence Evaluations: Externals and internals are self‐explanatory. UT on equipment is also
easy to figure out. The question lies with piping UT. For example if you have a UT task on a
process gas line with less than 1 mpy corrosion rate. You use the low corrosion rate strategy
which states inspect 100% of the assigned CML locations for a medium confidence. In APM you
first have to choose the Damage mechanism, so you choose criticality calculator internal
corrosion, they you select inspection type (so Ultrasonic thickness testing). After that is where it
gets questionable. You have to choose a strategy from a drop down menu that has the
following:
a. 10% of TML’s by category
b. 25% of TML’s by category
c. 50% of TML’s by category
d. 2 UT per head, 4 per shell
e. Etc for other equipment strategies.
So nowhere in the Meridium inspection strategy for piping <1mpy does it say choices a. through
c. Do we just select the option out of a through c. that gives us a medium confidence?
Which would be the 25%. That is what I have done the last couple of times, but want to
make sure this is correct.
