Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan

Using 4As Approach

Grade 10 Mathematics

Learning Competency: Illustrates the following measures of position: Quartiles,

Deciles, Percentiles (M10SP-IVa-1)

I. OBJECTIVE
After the learners have gone through the key concepts, they are expected to:
a. define quartile and ungrouped data;
b. interpret the value of patience and perseverance in developing the skill;
and
c. demonstrate quartiles for ungrouped data.
II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Illustrates the following Measures of Position: Quartiles, Deciles,

Percentiles

Sub-Topic: Quartiles for Ungrouped Data

Materials: Laptop, TV/Monitor, Manila Paper, Marker, Bond Paper/Paper,

Activity Sheets, Scissor, Scotch Tape, Android Phone/Tablet

References: Mathematics 4th Quarter – Module 33: Measures of Position of

Ungrouped Data Pages 5-7, 10-15

III. PROCEDURE
A. Preliminaries
● Prayer
● Greetings
● Classroom Management
● Checking of Attendance
● Motivation
The teacher will show a sequence of pictures through “4 pics, 1
word” and the learners will have to identify what it is.
Edit the letters in the boxes. Delete excluded letters.

What is another way of describing a set of data?

● Review
Median is the middle number in a sorted, ascending or
descending, list of numbers and can be more descriptive of that
data set than the average.
Example:

B. LESSON PROPER
1. Activity (Lihok Tawo)
The class will be divided into two groups and each group will
have a specific task to do. The first group will do Activity M, while
the second group will do Activity N. Each group will write their
output on the provided manila paper and select one member to
discuss their output. Once the group is done, they will shout their
group name and paste their output on the board. The output will be
graded with accords to the rubric presented. The task will take no
more or less than 15 minutes to finish.

Student’s Guide:
The Quartile for Ungrouped Data- state the definition.
The quartiles are the score points which divide a distribution
into four equal parts. Twenty-five percent (25%) of the distribution are
below the first quartile, fifty percent (50%) are below the second
quartile, and seventy-five percent (75%) are below the third quartile. Q1
is called the lower quartile and Q3 is the upper quartile. Q1 ¿ Q2 <¿ Q3
, where Q2 is nothing but the median.
Since the second quartile is equal to the median, the steps in
the computation of median by identifying the median class is the same
as the steps in identifying the Q1 class and the Q3 class.
Sa illustration, indicate the percentage in order to understand easily by
the learners.

Q1 Q2 Q3

a. 25% of the has a value ≤ Q 1

b. 50% of the data has a value ≤ x or Q2.
c. 75% of the date has value ≤ Q3.

where n is the number of values (isn't it number of

terms?)
Note: For large data sets in getting the median, divide the
number of items by 2, then subtract 1 to find the number that
should be above and the number that should be below. For
example, 100/2 = 50. 50 – 1 = 49.

ACTIVITY M
Answer the following:
● Arrange your groupmates (according to your age) accordingly
with their age in ascending order. (Present this to the class)
___________________________
● Identify the median. This is Q2. __________
● Identify the lower half. _________________
● Identify the median of the lower half. This is Q1.________________
● Identify the upper half._________________
● Identify the median of the upper half. This is Q3.
__________________
● Compare the value of Q1, Q2,Q3 by using the symbols >,<,(and the
other symbol with equal sign. Maglisod ko insert kay phone ra akoa
gamit.)
● Illustrate the Q1, Q2 and Q3 using the formula given in your activity
sheet.

ACTIVITY N
Answer the following:
Note to the teacher, include tape measure in your materials. Delete
this when ready.
● Arrange your groupmates (according to your height) accordingly
with their height (cm) in ascending order.(Present this to the class)
______________________
● Identify the median. This is Q2. __________
● Identify the lower half. _________________
● Identify the median of the lower half. This is Q1.________________
● Identify the upper half._________________
● Identify the median of the upper half. This is Q3.

2. Analysis
The learners will answer the following:
Note: Include questions such "How did you get" the answer in
the activity in specific manner. For them to analyze how did they
do it.
a. How do you find the activity?
b. How did you able to find the measures of position - quartile for
ungrouped data?
c. What have you observe about the quartile in ungrouped
data?-What is the possible answer?
d. What is your basis in solving the quartile? -what is the
possible answer?
e.

3. Abstraction
The teacher will post the questions for the students to answer.
Learners will be chosen randomly to answer the questions.

a. How does the measures of position specifically quartile for

ungrouped data are applied in real-life situations?
b. If you have a large set of data, how do we (you) find the
median?
c. What is ungrouped data?
d. What is quartile for ungrouped data?
4. Application
The teacher will do the act/exercise "call a number” (each
student will have their assigned number). Students will be chosen at
random to answer the questions in this activity using a lottery

system.
Pwede ka diri magpareading to identify the reading skills of your
learners. At least 10 learners. Mao imong gamitong nga data. Pili ka
simple passage nga basahon nila.
● Arrange the values in ascending order. ______________
● Identify the median. This is Q2. __________
● Identify the lower half. _________________
● Identify the median of the lower half. This is Q1.________________
● Identify the upper half._________________
● Identify the median of the upper half. This is Q3.

IV. EVALUATION

The assessment of the lesson will be done in an online platform

Kahoot.

- On your android phone/tablet, go to google chrome and type the

link given by the teacher OR https://kahoot.it/ and/or kahoot join
game.
- Type the PIN given by the teacher and click enter.
- Then, type a nickname of your choice.
- Once on the site, wait for the game to begin.
