OBSERVATION 4.1
Introduction: Classroom management refers to the wide variety of skills and
techniques that teachers use to keep students organized, orderly,
focused, attentive, on task and academically productive during a class
(https://www.edglossary.org/classroom-management/). This is an
important aspect a teacher should master to minimize the behaviors
that hampers individual and group learning, while maximizing the
behaviors that facilitate learning.

This observation phase gives the students an opportunity to examine

the different components of classroom management such as classroom
environment/physical setting, instructional planning, delivery of
instruction and classroom discipline and how these things affects the
overall teaching and learning process.
Learning At the end of this module, I will be able to:
Outcomes:
 Describe the following:
A. Physical setup of the classroom;
B. implementation of classroom discipline;
C. Delivery of instruction
 Reflect on the influence of the different aspects of classroom
management in the overall teaching and learning process.
 Formulate your ideal management style as future educator.
Observation Guide 1. Observe an actual class.
2. Using the checklist below, determine the evident classroom design
components
OBSERVATION REPORT

A. Physical Setting
Component of Classroom Management Description
1. Arrangement of Furniture There is a teacher’s table at the very front of
the classroom, one (1) well-functioning ceiling
fan, one (1) locker, and two (2) florescent
lamps.

2. Walls and display There are a lot of display seen on the wall on
the upper part of the chalk board in the front of
the classroom. It is as follows:
 Photo of the Philippine’s President and
Vice-President,
 Department of Education’s Mission,
Vision, and Core Values,
 The Philippine National Anthem, and the
Oath to the Philippine Flag.

At the both sides of the wall, you can see the

following:
 Names of the days in a week
 English and Tagalog names of months
 Covid-19 protocol
 Classroom rules
 Different kinds of “Anyong Tubig”
 Different kinds of “Anyong Lupa”

While at the back of the classroom, you can

see the following:
 The quote “Honesty is the Best Policy”,
 Photo and names of the advisers of the
class,
 and the “information board”.

3. Seating Arrangement The seating arrangement is not very packed

because there are less than seven pupils. On the
left and right sides of the classroom are where
you'll find the chairs. The additional seats enable
the children to sit one seat apart.
4. Lightings Besides from the one (1) florescent lamp,
the classroom has plenty of open windows
with curtains that can block the direct
sunlight from the students.

5. Cleanliness There aren't many pupils, so it's simple to keep

an eye on the classroom's cleanliness. The pupils
are obliged to bring an eco-bag where they may
store all of their waste because the classroom
does not have any trash cans.
B. Classroom Rules/Discipline
1. Daily Routine They must perform morning exercises as part of
their regular regimen after praying together
before beginning the session. In addition, they
will discuss the classroom before going through
the prior lesson. The kids were permitted to take
their seatwork home if they did not finish it. They
must line up when it is time to go for home, and
they are not permitted to leave the classroom
without their instructor.
2. Student Discipline The class that I have observed was after the
recess and I have noticed that some the students
are still in the school canteen even if the subject
teacher is already inside the classroom.
3. Handling Misbehavior The instructor will use constructive discipline
when a pupil misbehaves. When a pupil is having
a tantrum, the instructor would sometimes talk to
them calmly before taking them to a quiet room.
4. Reinforcement of positive behavior According to what I've seen, when a student
behaves well, the instructor would either
commend them for their good behavior or award
them a point so they can receive a star.
C. Instructional Planning and
Delivery
1. Schedule of activities There is always a worksheet to be answered
every lesson or topic that has been discussed the
day after it was given. And an assessment every
end of the week for the learner’s mastery.
2. Giving Directions It was always clear and precise. However, every
time the students have questions, Ma’am Marl
was always willing to answer them politely.
3. Teaching strategies Mixture of Active Learning and Reciprocal
Learning. The learners are thought to realize
concepts and ideas to incorporate to the real
world. In addition to the statement, the students
are sharing their knowledge to one another for
more elicit learning.
4. Student Involvement In participation, the students are quite hesitant
to answer questions from the teacher as they
are afraid to make a mistake.
However, there are few who really participate in
the discussion. And the learners who are not
involving themselves into the discussion were
being encouraged by the teacher.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS
Instructions: Answer the following questions. Write your answer on the space provided.

1. What component of the classroom management were evident in the observed class? How
do these affect learner’s performance?
- Each one is clear to the class being watched, and it affects the learner's
academic performance in a unique way. For instance, when a student
misbehaves, it might occasionally annoy majority of their classmates, which
causes them to lose focus in class.
2. Are there components which are not evident or needs improvement? Suggest ways for
possible improvement.
- Expanding the space in each part per grade level is a potential modification I'm
considering to provide the pupils more freedom of movement when engaging in
group activities. They have to also put a television in each classroom so that
instructors may utilize it to teach and students can view it properly.
3. How does the teacher impose discipline in the class?
- In order to avoid repeating herself throughout their class hour, Ma'am Rachelle
makes a commitment at the beginning of the school year to provide the home
rules and policies in the classroom. Additionally, she always makes sure that all
disputes about the pupils' grades and performance are maintained in
confidence. She will make sure that everyone is held accountable for their
conduct, though, if the issue involves the entire class. The children are well
aware of the necessity of doing their pre-classroom tasks prior to Ma'am Marl's
arrival. include carefully lining up their chairs and clearing up any rubbish that
is lying around.
4. How does the teacher handle the delivery of the lesson? What notable strategies did you
notice for an effective delivery of instruction?
- Teachers should deliver adequate instruction next with this is to ask the
students if there are any queries or clarifications about the teaching and ask
them about their insights into the exercise. Aside from providing suitable
directions, teachers can also plan enjoyable and interactive activities to assist
students obtain a better understanding of certain subjects. It is also essential
for the teachers to create adapted assessments that depend on their students'
needs. Because in that way, it will help the students answer the assessments
based on their abilities and skills. It is critical to understand what works and
what does not work so that the teacher knows what she can and cannot use.

ANALYSIS & KEY INSIGHTS

Instructions: Answer the following questions

1. As future educators, what is your view on effective classroom management? What

characteristics should a teacher possess to effectively manage the class?
- There are too many variables that might influence a child's academic performance
in a school. It can be either good or negative, or it can be both simultaneously.
For instance, someone can find the furniture placement, lighting, or even the wall
color bothersome. And as a prospective teacher, I want my pupils to have the
finest possible learning environment free from obstacles and annoyances. I want
to excite a lot of people's curiosity while fostering inclusion in the classroom.
Maintaining the efficacy of the teaching and learning process is more difficult
when there are many pupils in a classroom. For me, a teacher has to have these
qualities in order to properly manage a class: empathy, patience, and a desire to
teach the students. The most crucial quality you need to have among the three is
patience.

OBSERVATION 4.2
Learning At the end of this module, I will be able to:
Outcomes:
 describe how classroom management was demonstrated in the
class;
 analyze the influence of classroom management in the overall
teaching and learning process; and,
 reflect on psychological theories that are used in classroom
management.
Observation Guide 1. Observe an actual class

OBSERVATION REPORT

1. Observe the teacher when delivering instructions. What does the teacher do before giving the
instruction? How does the teacher deliver the instruction? What does the teacher do when the
students understood / followed the instruction? What does the teacher do when students are not
listening / fails to follow the instruction?
- The teacher makes sure that all of the students are seated comfortably in the classroom
before asking them to pick up any papers or trash that is lying around, arrange the chairs,
and check to see that no one is getting up or making noise. She then bids them a hearty
"good morning" before providing the necessary instructions. Once it is apparent what is
being asked of her and there are no more questions, she will start talking about what she
was going to. The learner will be requested to stand up and repeat the lesson if the pupils
did not comprehend it or did not listen to it at all. If the learner does not repeat the
instruction, they will be punished as a result of their behavior.
2. Observe the teacher when discussing the lesson. How does the teacher respond to wrong
answers of pupils? Correct answer of pupils? What is the response of the pupil in each case? Cite
situations observed showing this.
- When a student provides an incorrect response, the teacher will not state the answer is
incorrect directly but will instead inquire as to if the student is certain of the response. The
learner will get explanations of the question from the teacher until they understand it. On
the other side, the instructor will commend the pupils and award them a point when they
correctly answer the question. They can receive a star as compensation if they earn 5
points. When the instructor acts in this way, the pupils, in my observation, are eager to
engage in each activity and make every effort to provide accurate answers.

3. Observe the teacher when addressing the student’s misbehavior. What misbehavior was
observed? How does the teacher respond to the misbehavior? How does the student and the rest
of the class respond?
- When one of Mrs. Rachelle Cantilado's pupils yells out of boredom or frustration, the rest
of the class will either copy them or become upset. This is because Mrs. Rachelle
Cantilado's kids act out at inopportune moments. Instead of reprimanding a misbehaving
student, the instructor will call his or her name, attempt to calm them down, and remind
them of the rules that apply in the classroom as well as what to do if they experience strong
emotions.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS
Instructions: Answer the following questions. Write your answer on the space provided.

1. Reflect on operant conditioning theory. How important is this theory in classroom management?
How would you use this theory in the future to effectively manage your class?
- I understand what it's like to be embarrassed in front of a large audience by my own
instructor as a student. I am aware that I am not a great student, but despite the actions I
took, I do not think I should be made to feel ashamed. This demonstrates that not all
punishments meted out by instructors to their pupils are effective, particularly when the
punishment's sole purpose is to make the teacher feel good. Additionally, I think that
promoting positive reinforcement will be extremely beneficial for my future pupils. Instead
of focusing on the negative behaviors my pupils exhibit, I will emphasize the positive ones;
by doing this, I am encouraging them to act in that way.

2. Social learning theory states that people learn from observing others. How is this related to
classroom management? How would you use this theory in the future to effectively manage your
class?
- In learning-by-observing, pupils essentially mimic the actions of other learners, whether
those actions are constructive or destructive. In terms of classroom management, if a
student asks a question to the instructor and other students see that the question is being
acknowledged, then they will believe that it is OK to ask the teacher a question if they are
unable to grasp the instructions or a discussion. This is crucial to me, especially for the
children who are afraid to raise questions or make requests because they think that if the
other students can do it, so can I.

ANALYSIS & KEY INSIGHTS

Instructions: Answer the following questions

1. Classroom management strategies can be proactive or reactive. What proactive strategies

were used by the teacher? What reactive strategies were used?
- The teacher employs a variety of proactive techniques. The use of visual cues and
reminders comes first. The setting of expectations with the kids follows. And last, the
positive reinforcement system. In contrast, in the reactive technique, the instructor, based
on the severity of the transgression, utilized the "time out" rule and requested the student
to leave the classroom.
2. Discuss how operant conditioning was applied in the class you have observed. Cite situations
from your observations.
- Each student receives a point from the teacher as a reward for participating in the
conversation as well as for upholding their responsibility to do their tasks and
responsibilities in the classroom or to behave appropriately. They will pick up
responsibility if they desire further rewards. Being rewarded for doing the right thing is a
terrific boost that always works nicely. The kids must avoid punishment in contrast to that
in order to avoid the negative effects it might have. Ma'am Rachelle made the decision to
penalize the designated classroom cleaners by making them spend almost half of their
time cleaning the room and the other half doing their quiz.

3. Judging from how the teacher responded to correct and incorrect / proper and improper
behavior, what will be its impact to the students? Support your answer with research findings
- Nearly all of our schools are beginning to see the phenomena of such improper behavior
in the classroom. It has consequently spread worldwide. Of course, students who are
disinterested in learning and teaching do harm to both themselves and the educational
system as a whole. Apparently, G. Tiwari, N., and H. According to Panwar (2014), the
appropriateness of disciplinary measures taken against pupils who misbehave depends
on how severe they are. Students may feel less confident and self-assured, which might
make them detest the instructor. It also relies on how the student responds to and takes
in correction and discipline. Therefore, we must guarantee that the educational system has
a mechanism and that educational politics places greater emphasis on identifying and
assisting kids who exhibit improper behavior in the classroom. And demand that
educators be qualified, committed, and accountable, paying particular attention to children
who exhibit passion while learning.
