Personal Statement

A picture can say more than a thousand words. Photography to me is something I’m very
passionate about as it allows me to express myself and the world in the most creative and
unthinkable ways. Having seen your university online, I was drawn to the environment and
atmosphere described. This course would give me perfect opportunities and challenges to
push myself and allow me to develop my skills. I first heard about this university through my
friend’s recommendations and previous students. Hearing these positive comments made
me keen to know more about this course as it would give me the boost I need in my
photography career.

Currently, I am at the Bournemouth and Poole college studding level 3 Media. So far, I have
enjoyed learning many new skills such as technical and communication. For example, I now
have a variety of knowledge in software like Photoshop, After Effects, Premier Pro and
Animate. Not only this but, I have been taught in using cameras, computers and theory,
especially advertising. Throughout this course, I have worked on team and individual
projects such as short adverts, films and small photography pieces. I have carried these out
in college and in my free time.

With these key skills, I believe this course will enhance my best work and push me to
improve and learn. Additionally, my written skills have helped me understand behind the
camera and how to work with consumers. I did this by analysing and researching existing
adverts and campaigns. Therefore, I am enthusiastic to get behind the camera and work
with other people and departments your offer.

Before I had an interest in media and photograph, I loved to play sports. My favourites are
netball and skateboarding. From these past hobbies, I have learnt skills that I now need in
this industry. For instance, I learnt in skateboarding that I must keep practicing in order to
get to my best self and work. I also know from netball how to work in a team and how to be
a good team player. Both have taught me to never give up and keep being determined. Even
when I couldn’t land that trick on my board, I got up and kept going till I got it. I now use
what I have learnt and apply it to my work I do now. This is why I try by best at anything
given.

Overall, my skills I have learnt have helped me move forward and gain my confidence even
more. However, I am eager and keen to learn more and really take my passion to the next
level so I can pursue my career. I believe I deserve to secure a place at your university
because I am committed and motivated to take this opportunity to push myself and
demonstrate my passion.
