Having had a passion for drawing from a very young age the below

captures just some of my feelings on what I can only describe as an

invaluable outlook in the expression of the imagination. Here I am in full
agreement with the iconic artist, Ralph Bakshi, when he wrote that emotion
and energy is what is most important in animation.

Most recently I have worked on my drawing ability and scope, constantly

reflecting on found resources for self-learning to attending the Arts
University Bournemouth Animation Saturday schools all of which has
brought me to where I am today.

Hours have been spent experimenting with styles, techniques and drawing
to get the angles, shading and positions to achieve the best outcome for
my art work and designs. I have created an original set of characters which
are featured in my portfolio which started off as basic designs that have
evolved over time. They all have their own personalities, which I try to
portray their emotions through just the face which required me to
understand how the human face is structured and behaves and combine
this with how each figure is constructed. This required extensive life
drawing practice, observational drawing and detailed research into
anatomy and figure drawing; through this I can portray all body types and
stances as accurately as I can. I experiment constantly with costume and
silhouette as these are the first two character defining traits that allow you
to read their behaviours and overall emotions that the I intend for the
character and so I constantly test my creativity and my ability to solve any
problems to achieve that goal. With this journey I have found areas of
development which required me to further research skills required to get
these down correctly, such as anatomy and researching the book
‘Constructive Anatomy’ by George B Bridgman.

This passion for drawing led me to apply for the UAL Level 3 in Creative
Media Production and Technology at Bournemouth and Poole College.
This has further enhanced my knowledge and exposure to more areas of
animation alongside practical elements including photography, video
production, 3d modelling, 2D animation production and media theory. My
first-year Final Major Project had an open theme which allowed me to gain
extensive experience with a range of hardware, software and mediums.
This allowed me to experience and execute a varety of practices and
techniques which could then be used for future projects both in and out of
production. This includes software such as Adobe Photoshop, Animate,
Premiere Pro, After Effects, Blender and Cinema 4D to a high standard.

Additionally, through taking this course I have improved and developed my

research skills when constructing extensive feedback for a project. After
acquiring audience feedback through several surveys, drafts and concepts,
I proceeded to focus on both the background design, character design and
animation. These again required me to do an extensive amount of
additional self-learning and research on how to compose a shot
professionally in addition to executing colour theory to such a degree that I
could create the digital creation which achieved a Distinction grade and
something I am extremely proud of, which is a reason for including it in my
digital portfolio. I am currently in the preliminary process of planning and
researching ideas for my second year Final Major Project which is
scheduled to begin in March 2023.

After attending the Animation open day at the Arts University of

Bournemouth back in June this has most definitely confirmed me that this is
the career path I want to pursue. Knowing that I have more to learn and
with amazing facilities, passion and expertise of the tutors at AUB this
would be the perfect location for me to pursue and achieve this and
continue in my love for drawing and animation, learning from its history and
bring new original material to a contemporary audience, developing new
sensory and visual experiences.
