Proposal

Rationale
I have decided to make one short film and one animation, these are targeted
at those aged 40-60 years old. I have never made a production targeted to this
audience so I feel this will challenge me and force me to be creative with my
decisions. There is an added challenge to make the short film as the brief
states there is no dialogue that can be used, this is again something that will
challenge me seeing as I have never made a short film like this, and it will make
me be creative with the way I portray the characters and how they
communicate with one another. I need to research my target audience a lot in
pre-production due to not ever doing so with past productions, and I will use
many different techniques like surveys for primary research and analysing
demographics as my secondary research. I will also be doing a animation using
Lego. I feel this way I can be most creative, and having done various
animations in previous productions and units I feel comfortable to do one as
mine have been to a good standard in the past.

Project concept
I will need to be creative when writing the storyline for the two productions as
I have never made any productions targeted at this audience. I will also use my
editing skills that I have developed in the previous units into these productions
to make them of higher quality in post-production. I will need to research into
animations targeted at adults to see what sort of storylines they go for, as for
me this is the most challenging point of the unit. It will likely need to be based
around a comedy as the most popular animations targeted at adults include
the Simpsons and family guy, which is full of it. I will research more into the
genre as again, I’ve never made a production based on adult animation so I will
need to learn about what the writers and animators do to keep people
continuously watching the series. There are also adult animators like Jan
Svankmajer and the brother’s quay I can research for inspiration.

Evaluation
The way I am going to evaluate my work for this unit is by doing weekly blogs,
this will help me and my markers see the progress I am making each week.
After my production is finished I will also be doing a final evaluation to discuss
my strengths and weakness of each project and how I will use the
Improvements when going into my FMP so I can improve my grade for it.
Using my specialism from Unit 12 (editing) I will also discuss where I’ve
developed there and the techniques I’ve used from previous units into these
productions, another way I could get feedback is doing a survey to my target
audience, to see if it does appeal to them, as if it does it would have been a
successful production
