Proposal

‘Fidel’
Concept
Young man from England, Zion, who is struggling in school but can’t get a job to support ill
single mother, turns to the streets and narcotics for an income. Works for Fidel Castro, a
Venezuelan drug lord whose men are all over the country working for him. Zion needs to
deliver a bag of narcotics given to him, the problem is that he has lost it, and the time to
deliver the bag is slowly running out, he tries to look around to where he could have put
them, and starts panicking and being pessimistic about what could happen to him, as he
knows each of Fidel’s men carry weapons like fire arms, and are well protected, so he can’t
get into any sort of violence as he knows he will be no match for their men. After the
deadline starts to approach he needs to drop off the bag, so he double checks what is in the
bag, and Fidel replies on text angrily saying 30 bags of cocaine worth a grand each. This
makes Fidel panic even more knowing the value of what is missing. As a last resort he fakes
the drop off, instead putting flour and salt into bags and quickly dropping it off. He feels it
would give him enough time to flee the country however shortly after the drop off when one
of Fidel’s men are looking at the bag, spot that there is a flour packet, and it is obvious it is
fakes, Zion hides but makes a slight noise that gives away his position, Fidel’s man pulls out
a firearm and starts aiming it in the direction of Zion, as Zion quickly runs for it.

Why are you producing this production?

I’m producing this production because of how popular crime dramas are amongst my target
audience. Narcos and Breaking bad are two of the most popular Netflix series’ in my target
audience, as found by my research, so I wanted to make my production similar to that
because I know it’s a genre popular among my target audience. I also feel like short films are
something I’m confident when producing and have the most experience of producing and
therefore skills like planning, time management and my standard of quality should be good as
with each production I’ve made in previous units I would have gotten a little better each time
and learned from mistakes of previous productions.

Deadline: My deadline for filming is the 20th December, however in this time I need to film
both of my productions so I will need to use my time management skills wisely and use my
production schedule (and update it a lot) so that my markers know what I’m doing. I will also
need to finish editing this production by 15th Jan, however again I need to use my planning
skills and production schedule well as not only do I have the Christmas holidays in the
middle of it but also have to finalise and edit my other production.

Target audience is 40-60-year olds, known as middle aged and I have never made a
production targeted at this age group before, so I know it will be challenging where I need to
put as much effort as possible to achieve a high grade.

What they want to see

From feedback from my target audience want me to concentrate on camera angles and Foley,
as there is no dialogue. They really liked the example I had because of the emotions it had
Proposal
them going through, it seems like it was unique to them and clearly, they hadn’t seen
many productions without using dialogue. So therefore, I will work hard on getting the
Foleys to the right intensity to have my audience feel different emotions, as well as shoot
each shot a few times until I’m happy with the realism of my actors authentic emotions.

What you are creating based from that research

From my first focus group I know that they feel my idea is generally fitting for my target
audience, but as I have no dialogue they said I need to be extremely careful with each shot
that I do, as facial expression will be one of the only ways that I can communicate with the
audience about how characters feel, I also need to make sure that my actors have authentic
expressions, and this is something I’m going to look for when doing auditions.

Where the production will be aired (why – based on target audience)

I will air my production on YouTube and Facebook, as these were the places from my
research that are most used my target audience which means I will be more likely to reach
people from my target audience as 7/10 have a Facebook account. YouTube is also the most
popular video website, with over 2 billion people using it.
