Short film
Proposal 06.02.2023

Rationale

Over the last 12 units, I have learnt many new skills and come across many experiences. I
have learnt more about editing productions and camera work to suggest a certain emotion or
feeling. I now know how to evaluate productions more effectively and how I should develop
an idea based on the information I found. In the beginning of the course, I always stuck with
my own idea and took people’s advice but never used it as I was confident with my own
idea. I am using focus groups and surveys to help change my idea and develop it into a
stronger narrative. This time for my final project, I have learnt new ways to edit and a range
of camera shots which I will include in my visuals to create an eerie effect and have a big
impact on the audiences. My long-term aspirations for this unit are to expand my camera
skills and move the camera more instead of centralised shots like I always do. I want to
improve my editing style and add more interesting effects and details.

Project concept

For my project, I will produce a short film including a thriller genre and it will have a huge
impact on the audience. I am anticipating to create a time loop storyline where the character
gets shot and starts to relive that same day until she stops the murderer. In the end, the loop
finishes and she wakes up in a hospital and the doctor has the same face as the murderer.
This will end on a cliff-hanger. I am trying to entertain and keep the viewers on edge
throughout my production. I intend to use creative editing and a range of camera shots to
take the narrative further and more exciting to watch. I will need a high quality camera and
good editing skills to pull off what I anticipate on creating. I’ve based my idea on mainly
feedback and research ideas, gathering it all together to create a strong narrative and an
enjoyable one. I will keep the visuals appropriate and show the best impact using sound
effects and dialogue. On planning days, I intend to further research on how to make a thriller
short film suspenseful and ask peers for feedback on how I can get my production to look
better.

Evaluation

Reflecting on my work is an important aspect to have while planning and making a

production. I intend to reflect on my work and see the things that went well and what needs
improving throughout the visuals and how I put together my production. On my website, I will
include the ways my narrative changes or any improvements from peers and teachers.
When working with others on this project, it will help me positively because their ideas can
build on top of mine and develop my camera work and editing more effectively. I should take
advice from others but not forget my plan and progression throughout. My production will
improve with the changes during feedback, research and other ideas I get from myself. This
will advance my production to the best level it can be and push myself to gain the goals. I will
go back to my research and planning to see if my final production matches up with my
original ideas. This can help me to reflect on how well my objectives started and if I changed
anything.
