Logline: Excitement and mystery: the two key elements of the perfect rope drop. What

lies behind the gates of a theme park is negligible without the anticipation leading up to the day

and the mystery of what could happen.

Synopsis: The sun has just risen and the parking lot and area is devot of life. Something

is about to happen here. The sense of emptiness in this place does not remain for long as cars

begin to file into the lot. At first it happens slowly as the members of the staff arrive first. As

they step out of their cars their movements are methodical, practiced. This place holds no

mystery or excitement for them. They know what and who to expect for the day to come. As the

staff walks away from the parking lot, it becomes still once again. It is time for a new type of

people to enter this place.

More cars begin to enter the space. They drive to find a parking spot but at this time in

the morning there is no hassle to grab a spot. Tired children drop out of the car doors and the

adults smile and tell them about how much fun they will have at the park today. This quickly

wipes the traces of sleepiness from their eyes and in their place is a sense of wonder. As their

parents take them by the hand they are led out of the parking garage and across the walkway to

the facade of the building. As they approach the building they begin to see characters on the

sides of the building. These characters are larger than life and are the types of heroes, jokesters,

and people that they love and aspire to be like.

As the groups of families and friends approach the building the place is revealed to be the

Warner Bros. World theme park. Excitement can be felt from these groups of people who

anticipate what will happen the rest of the day. Which of their favorite characters will they meet?

What delicious snacks will they munch on? What thrill rides will take their breath away. As the

door opens they are pulled into this amazing new world.

Contextual: What inspired this idea is my own experience with theme parks. When my

family and I wake up on the theme park day all we feel is this excitement. We can guess at what

is to come when we enter the park but there is a sense of mystery. As everyone lines up to enter

the park there is a palpable sense of anticipation.

This documentary will be able to capture how this place makes people feel even before

they enter the building. Whether a person experiences theme parks on a regular basis or if this is

a once in a life experience, the emotions that they have leading up to the day are exponential.

The beginning of this documentary will be slow to start the build up of the anticipation. As the

audience waits to see what will happen, the people in the documentary are feeling the same

thing. As the day progresses and the people arrive, events speed up as the families and friends

can’t wait any longer to see what lies behind the door.

Technical: The cinematic approach will be that of playfulness to be able to capture the

excitement of the people in the film. The shots will be from different angles to capture all sides

of the occurrence and a timelapse will rev the events up even faster. The theme of the

documentary is anticipation because that is what leads these people in the film through their

journey. The philosophy of the documentary is that this excitement has no age because as

families and friends gather at this place they all feel the same.

For the resources for this documentary I will be using the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema

Camera 4k along with a tripod. The DaVinci Resolve program will be what I edit the film with.

Techniques like timelapse, pans, tilts, title and credit scenes, and speed effects will all be used

through a combination of camera techniques and editing techniques.

As for the locations and people who will be in the film I am currently getting permission

to be able to film inside of the Warner Bros. World building, but outside of the building there is

no permission needed. For the guests entering the park, any close ups or focus shots that I would

like to do for specific people I will ask their permission before filming them.
