Why do you think Hallyu became a reflection of the Philippine cultural identity?
Hallyu became a reflection of the Philippine Culture because of the similarities we have like
being a food and music lovers. Koreans also enjoy celebrations such as birthdays and get-
togethers and this is why it is really quick to adapt their culture because of the same vibe.
What do you think is the reason why Filipinos love Hallyu and idolize K-Pop stars?
People say that, aside from the good-looking actors and actresses, the drama storyline is
quite different in that both lead characters died in the end which is somewhat unusual for
Filipinos who have grown accustomed to happy endings. In other words, there is always a thrill
and excitement that caught the interest of Filipinos.
How do you think Hallyu affected businesses in the Philippines, and do you think the
marketability and industry for Hallyu are becoming a bandwagon?
I believe there are always advantages and disadvantages but as we can see Korea has
been the Philippines’ largest partner in the market for Korean entertainment. It is acceptable to
continue the good relationship because both countries benefit from it.
