Respect means a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities,
qualities or achievements. As I reflect on the word respect, in my own understanding this word is
something that we’re able to express our feelings and gratitude to our parents, siblings and other
people. It is about acceptance and trust. It doesn’t come naturally since it is something we must learn.
The question is, do we all know how to respect each other without judging one's appearance and status
in life? It is easy for us to tell someone that I respect your opinion or I respect you for who you are but
deep inside we only give respect base on the status of a person in the society. To give respect means to
widen your understanding in persons perspective, religion, belief and other matters and accept it with
kindness even when they’re different from you or you don’t agree with them. Therefore, I must say,
respect is hard to earn and easy to lose. Furthermore, for us be able to respect others we must learn
how to respect ourself first because it will serve us as a guide on how to treat people with respect base
on how we would like to be treated by others.
