CHAPTER 6: EARTHQUAKE AND FAULTS

I. Objectives:
At the end of this lesson, the students are expected to:
a. make an emergency plan before, during and after earthquake
b. infer how earthquake drills help people stay safe in case of earthquake.

III. Learning Activities


A. Review
Letting the students do the activity “Pass the ball” to check what they have learned during the
past discussion. In this activity, the teacher will pass a ball to a person and that person has to say
one concept he/she remember from the discussion. If that student can state a concept, he or she
will pass the ball to another student who has to now define the concept. Then that student passes
it to another student who gives a new concept, and so on.

B. Motivation
Teacher will show a short video presentation about earthquake in real scenario then asked
the following questions:
How prepared are you when earthquake occur?
How are you going to avoid the strong impact of earthquake?

C. Learning Development
1. Do you live near the area where active faults present?
2. Is there an active fault passing by your town, province, or region? If so, are you and your
family prepared for the occurrence of an earthquake?
3. What are the thing you need to know before, during and after the earthquake?
ACTIVITY
1. Group the students into three.(group before, group during and group after)
2. Let each group enumerate /list the things that need to do before, during and after the
earthquake.
3. The focus of each group will depend on their group names (e.g. if your GROUP
BEFORE focus on before the earthquake)
4. Each group shall have a reporter who will explain in front the finished output.

D. Synthesis
 How to stay safe when an earthquake threatens?
 What is the application of our lesson for you as a student?

E. Infused Values
 As a student, what do you think is the importance of having earthquake drills here at our
own school?
Be ready anytime and anywhere because sometimes things just arrived quickly which sometimes
this thing have a great impact to your life. “If you fail to prepare, prepare to fail.
