LESSON PLAN in DRRM

I. OBJETIVES:
A. Content Standard
 The learners demonstrate understanding of…
Various elements that maybe exposed to hazards;
1. Physical
2. Social
3. Economic
4. Environmental
5. Vulnerability of each exposed element.

B. Performance Standard
 The learners conduct hazard hunts to exposed elements and propose
corresponding corrective actions for one’s preparedness.
C. Learning competency
- Enumerate elements exposed to hazards.
(DRR11/12-I-c-7)
-Explain the meaning of vulnerability (DRR11/12-Ic-8)
-Explain why certain sectors of society are more vulnerable to disaster than
others (. DRR11/12-Ic-9)
D. Specific Lesson Objectives: at the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
1. Identify the basic concept of exposure and vulnerability.
2. Demonstrate the various elements that affect exposure and
vulnerability and;
3. Appreciate efforts of the government aim to address the
implications of potential changes in the frequency, intensity,
and duration of weather and climate events that affect the
risk of extreme impacts human society.

II. CONTENT
 Exposure and Vulnerability

III. LEARNING RESOURCES

A. References:
 Disaster Readiness and Risk and Reduction for Senior High School
B. Other Learning Resources
 Laptop, projector, illustration board, chalk

IV. PROCEDURE

A. Pre-activities
a. Prayer
b. Review
c. Checking of attendance
d. Setting of standards
e. Review/Motivation
 Picture Analysis

ACTIVITY

Procedure:
1. Divide the class into three groups.
2. Assign each group a different topic to discuss
3. Each group will be going to make a graphic organizer or diagram to
explain the topic out from the information sheet. (5 minutes
discussion)

Group 1: Various Elements Exposed to Hazard

Group 2: Vulnerable Sectors
Group 3: Human Factors

Each group will be given freedom to present their output in different way such as talk show, singing,
and news casting. Each group will present 6-7 minutes.

ANALYSIS
1. How did you find to the activity?
2. Why is it that the Philippines is one of the exposed countries to hazards?

ABSTRACTION
Discussion of the activity through power point presentations

Exposure-refers to the presence of people, livelihood, environmental services and resources,

infrastructure, or economic social, or cultural assets in places that could be adversely affected by
physical events and which, thereby, are subject to potential future.

Various Elements Exposed to Hazards

a. Physical hazard
b. Cultural hazard
c. Economic hazard
d. Environmental hazard

Vulnerability- is the state of susceptibility to harm from exposure to stresses associated with
environmental and social change and from the absence of capacity to adapt.

Vulnerable Sectors Include

a. Agriculture and Food
b. Watersheds
c. Coastal and Marine Resources
Human Factors
 Wealth
 Education
 Governance
 Technology
 Age

APPLICATION
 Guide question: Why do people need to have better understanding about disaster?

EVALUATION
Considering that the Philippines is in the typhoon belt, state at least ten (5) recommendations
that you may suggest to our local authorities as preparatory steps to do before the typhoon
strikes.

ASSIGNMENT

Advance reading about Types of Hazard and the impact of hazards on different exposed elements.

ANNOTATION
Lesson Plan identifying the principles of teaching used as basis for planning/designing the lesson.

LESSON PLAN COMPONENT: LESSON OBJECTIVES

Teacher’s Annotation:

Research-based teaching strategy: “Set a learning goal for each lesson.”

I have set a goal for the lesson and have planned activities that will help students reach the goal.
A further benefit is that students will understand what success in the lesson looks like. I have used
Bloom’s taxonomy in writing learning objectives. Based on the Cognitive Process Dimensions adapted
from Anderson & Krathwohl (2001), it provides a scheme for classifying educational goals, objectives
& standards. It also defines a broad range of cognitive processes from basic to complex.

LESSON PLAN COMPONENT: PROCEDURE – PRE-ACTIVITIES/MOTIVATION

LESSON PLAN COMPONENT: APPLICATION & ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION

Teacher’s Annotation:

Teaching Principle and Research-based teaching strategy: “Summarize and conclude the lesson
through Socratic Method”.

To conclude the lesson by checking what the students have learned so far, this research-based
strategy for teaching is a two-fold strategy. Summarizing the lesson allows me to observe how much
students have learned and where they may be confused. And it also reinforces the main goal of the lesson
in terms of what students show know and be able to do. Described as the cornerstone of Cognitive
Behavioral Therapy (CBT), solves the inadequacy by asking series of focused, open-ended questions
that encourage reflection. Socratic questioning involves a disciplined and thoughtful dialogue between
two or more people. It is widely used in teaching to expose and unravel deeply held values and beliefs that
frame and support what we think and say. By using series of focused yet open questions, I can unpack
beliefs of my learners.

LESSON PLAN COMPONENT: LEARNING ACTIVITIES

Teacher’s Annotation:

Teaching Principles: “Creating an active learning environment & develop reciprocity &
cooperation among learners.”

A classroom must never be monologed in nature. It should be a platform for dialogues where the
students and teachers are equal participants. In order to foster an active learning environment, teachers can
incorporate activities. Encourage learners from different races and cultures to share their viewpoints on
topics shared in class.

I have used graphic organizer or diagram in exiting my active learning environment. According
to Ausubel’s Meaningful Verbal Learning/Subsumption Learning Theory says that knowledge is
hierarchically organized – new information is meaningful to the extent that it can be related to what is
already known. Also, I would like to promote cooperative learning. Vygotsky’s (1978) stressed the
benefits of collaborating with a more expert peer because what a student carries out jointly with another
could be incorporated into their individual performance.

LESSON PLAN COMPONENT: POST-ACTIVITY/ANALYSIS

Teacher’s Annotation:

Research-based teaching strategy: “Check understanding.”

I have used the teaching strategy of questioning to get students to learn. Skilled teachers use open
and closed questions, questions that build on what others have said, “Higher-order” questions. Students
should have a chance to give a feedback too.

Reflecting to the concept of Vygotsky. Vygotsky encouraged the developments of higher-order
