TEST II. ESSAY. Explain briefly and precisely in your own words
the following questions. (30 points)

It is said that school is the second to home, and teachers act as a child’s parent. The role of a
teacher therefore is equated to the role of a parent. One of these roles, and perhaps the most
complicated one is the role of giving guidance. First, one cannot guide if he is lost. Meaning, in
order for a person to be able to give out guidance to another person, he/she must first examine
himself/herself very well. Because guidance is all about leading someone to the right path.

1. If a student is problematic with his studies and is at risk

of failing or dropping out, it is the teacher’s primary role
to examine the cause – how can a teacher be of help?

First, the teacher needs to talk to the student and

identify what is the cause of His/her academic problem.
Second, the teacher must try to do something to help
students coupe up with his problems. The teacher must
see if how can she/he be a remedy to any kind of
problem a student’s have because any problem that a

1
student carries will affect how she/he is in school or
in his/her academic participation.
As teacher, we serve as guide and aid to our student’s
life. Our role is very vital to the future of our
students. With that we must be critical and aware of
what’s going on with the students we handle.

2. How about if the problem of the student is the teacher

itself who is so strict that he/she could hardly cope with
the lessons?
When the teacher is the problem of the students and the
teacher identified that he/she is the problem. The
action that the teacher must do is to find ways on how
he/she will become an effective in teaching his/her
subject. Adjustment is the key to the teacher for
him/her not to be the cause of the student’s problem.
As teacher, we must become a student centered in
teaching so that students will learn in an appropriate
manner rather than learning out of fear of strictness
of a teacher.

3. Teach a man how to fish, and he will live forever.

As future teacher, I would interpret this phrase
relative to spoon-feeding type teaching because if we
are going to analyze this phrase, a man will not live
forever if we are going to give him always a fish or in
other terms if we are going to give him all the answers
to his questions. The best thing to do as teacher is to
teach him the process hunting a fish or the process of
solving his problems just like when we teach in
mathematics class, we need to teach how we come up with
a certain solution and not giving them directly the
answers to certain problems. Teach them to do rather
than watch and wait for the blessings to come.
