ACTIVITY 1

1. How does the katipunan understand/make sense of the following?

a. State and Government

✓ It was clearly understand from the excerpts of Emilio Jacinto's Kartilya ng Katipunan and Liwanag at
Dilim as the people who protect, fight and stand for the state was written inside of it. That was the
people who make actions and movements for the peace, safety and bitterness of the country, that they
will sacrifice their life and protect it at all cost while the Government has the obligation to give
assistance, guidance to all the people of the country that they guide them for the things that could ruin
the land and to maintain and improve the country. The government do not create rules and laws for
their own good, instead it's goal is to give all the needs if the people and the country to have a safety
and peaceful county. Thereby, it was understand that the Katipunan considered the government as
ahead of the nation, it should be the bridge of the people living the country, that we must live as one.

b. Leadership

✓ The Katipunan viewed leadership as an obligation and duty which the goal is not to use the power
and authority for just the benefits of their own, but for all. Leaders who possess leadership give
guidance and assistance to the people especially in times of needs and crisis, to maintain unity of the
people and the peace of the country and to make everything better. And most specially, everyone must
be fair and just. No one should be treated differently. Whatever your situation in life, even if you are rich
or poor, it should be equal.

2. How does the katipunan understand/make sense of the Filipino Nation?

✓ As the Katipunan known for its brotherhood, it also has a faithful understanding of the concept of a
true Filipino nation. Katipunan consist of people who are dedicated and brave enough to fight for our
country. Being united for a common goal, having a common values and nationalistic ideas who fight for
everyone's freedom. Katipunan also helps the Filipino nation in understanding how our land is important
that we need to protect it especially in the past, people are confused, they lack knowledge in almost
everything and they settle for less, this words that the Katipunan published, helps them build their
minds and creates knowledge about how a nation should work.

3. What are your reflections on these writing about some important ideas of the katipunan?

✓ After I read the excerpt, it was touched my heart and soul. Katipunan clearly showed how people are
patriotic. No words can defined how they truly love this country. The prove their love and willingness to
fight and sacrifice their lives for the land. And in return, as citizen, we should also protect our country.
We should never let our country be in danger.
