Abstract: Understanding by Design: Implementation, Strategy, and Innovation of
Learning Development in Elementary Schools. This research is motivated by the problems
of learning in elementary schools. So far, the learning process in elementary schools tends to
be static, rigid, literalist, and there have been no efforts to develop learning and still use a
curriculum framework that tends to be obsolete. This has implications for decreasing student
understanding of several predetermined learning indicators. In addition, the learning series
always sequences on something that is standard, for example: determining learning objectives,
compiling learning steps, and making evaluation assessments. Based on this background, this
study aims to identify, identify, and develop a Understanding by Design implementation
framework, expected learning strategies within the Understanding by Design framework, as
well as present innovations and the teacher's role in the development of learning using the
Understanding by Design framework. The method used in this research is library research. The
approach uses a qualitative-descriptive approach to parse, obtain data, and sort research results
with predetermined objectives. The results of this study indicate that: 1). Implementation and
Analysis of Understanding by Design in learning in Indonesia; a. able to help the spectrum of
educators provide an understanding of learning. The spectrum of educators can disseminate the
UBD framework by forming public opinion, training, training, focus group discussions; b.
teachers must have the widest possible access to quality UBD teaching content, materials, and
curriculum frameworks; c. sustainable long-term professional development. 2). Understanding
by Design Framework Strategy in Learning includes; a. paradigm shift using drill and practice;
b. learning must be guided by principles; c. the use of a curriculum that emphasizes breadth of
knowledge; d. implementation of assessment assessment using authentic-holistic assessment.
3). The teacher's role in developing learning innovations with the Understanding by Design
framework includes: a. teachers play a role in designing learning units; b. design implementers.
