Subject: Improving collaboration

Dear Supervisors,

—[1]—. Throughout next month, I will be holding discussions with all of you regarding a variety of
factors related to improving and facilitating collaboration between individuals working on inter-
departmental projects.

Social media, an increasingly exible and effective means of communication, is a platform that
many companies are now utilizing as a means to aid collaborative efforts in the workplace.
—[2]—. This is a tool that we have reconsidered, and we now believe that it could indeed facilitate
communication between project members. Although we typically block our staff from accessing
such Web sites, we plan to restore access by the end of next month. However, methods of
monitoring Internet activity may also be implemented.

This issue affects every department, so I value the input of each and every one of you. —[3]—.
For now, I am simply considering our options. Please join me at the rst of several meetings
regarding social media, which will be held in the new conference room on the 12th oor this
Thursday at 2 P.M. —[4]—. Just turn left when you exit the elevator, and you’ll see the room in

I recently used your Web site to order two dozen red roses to give to my wife on our anniversary this coming
weekend. I was impressed that the order was delivered within one day, even including gift wrapping, but I’m
not satis ed with the package that I received. As you’ll see in your records, I paid an extra fee for gift wrapping,
so I was expecting my order to be in perfect condition and professionally presented. Unfortunately, the box and
the owers inside are crushed, and the ribbon is twisted badly, so I would like a full refund. I have already pur-
chased a different bouquet from another company I found online. Of course, you are welcome to send a driver
to collect the owers and packaging. Please contact me at 555-0133 at your earliest convenience so that we

GET TO KNOW YOUR NEW HOME!

Home Away From Home (HAFH) is located in central London. We provide a comprehensive pro-
gram to facilitate the transition experienced by students who are moving to the United Kingdom
for a year of study. Studying in a foreign country can be a daunting prospect, but HAFH can help
you to relocate smoothly, make friends, and become familiarized with the city. We can assist you
with apartment searches, introduce you to social clubs and groups, and provide you with many
useful tips for living in London. Since starting earlier this year, we have already helped hundreds of
students who have arrived as part of a university or college exchange program. Our volunteer city
guides are all highly knowledgeable when it comes to life in London. Among them are Alex Winter,
a writer for Fresh Sounds Magazine, and Ivy Bowman, a renowned local artist. For further details
about our program and services, please visit us online at www.hafh.org.

Back in August, I moved from my hometown of Rotterdam to London to study biochemistry
for one year. I was quite hesitant to move to another country, especially a huge city such as
London, so I contacted HAFH to see if they could help.

First of all, I was disappointed to see that their Web site is only available in English. While I
was able to cope with that, other people might experience dif culties nding information. It’s a
shame that the company doesn’t provide more language options.

Overall, the program definitely helped me to feel more comfortable in such a big city. Alex
Winter was assigned to me as my guide. Although he rarely managed to turn up on time for
our appointments, he did give me some invaluable information about London, and he was very
pleasant company. I’d definitely recommend HAFH, as I think it provides a highly beneficial
service that many other companies are lacking.
