CHAPTER 1
Rationale
This study not only demonstrates the best form of communication, but also the
advantages that users, such as netizens and study subjects who have adapted to taking classes
online, may experience. The study may help people who are accustomed to technology but leery
Given all of these, it is obvious that technology has advanced significantly in recent years,
making people more engaging and entertaining. Relationship development and building depend

With the world during a social media revolution, it is more than evident that social media
like Facebook, Twitter, Orkut, myspace, skype, etc., are used extensively for communication
(Baruah,2012). Bolt and Six Degrees were the first social networking sites to launch in 1997.
Andrew Weinreich, the founder of Six Degrees and sometimes referred to as the "Father of

Social Networking," created his platform to help people connect with people they didn't know
(Hines,2022). This led to the creation of newer venues in the coming years.
Social media allows users to connect with others and form communities. Building
relationships is more important than simply announcing or posting and not engaging with others.
It is undeniably altering how people communicate (Pimpernel,2019). Some academics argue that
online interaction harms communication quality. The underlying reason for this is that nonverbal
interact via social media (Adam,2018). More research is needed to determine how the evolution
of interpersonal communication and relationships has impacted society. While it is clear that
there is a growing trend in the use of virtual platforms, as evidenced by the figures, it is also
critical to consider the social effects in greater depth, as well as the impact of this fortuitous
improved quality of life, internet communication cannot. While the internet has expanded
our ability to connect with people worldwide, there are inherent factors in online
communication that limit its ability to promote the same levels of satisfaction as
Theoretical framework
Adaptive Structuration Theory (AST), developed by Marshall Scott Poole and Gerardine
DeSanctis (1994–1998), and Activity theory developed by Bonnie Nardi serves as the theoretical
foundation for the study. AST examines the change process from two angles: (1) the kinds of
structures provided by advanced technologies, and (2) the structures that are in human action as
people interact with these technologies. DeSanctis & Poole wrote in 1994, "Adaptive Structural
Theory (AST) is quickly developing into a significant theoretical paradigm for understanding
how advanced information technologies are used " (DeSanctis & Poole, 1994). The purpose of
Bonnie Nardi's theory, "Activity Theory and Human-Technology Interaction," is to clarify how
awareness and activity are related. Strong conceptions of intentionality, history, mediation,
consciousness. The theory of Adaptive Structuration and Activity theory analyzes the interaction
of humans and technology which can be applied in our study; with the help of this theory, we
would be able to understand the nature of human behavior through their usage of the two modes
of communication and how human-technology interactions can affect and develop productivity,
This study aims to compare the advantages and disadvantages of the two modes of
a) What are the pros and cons of each mode of communication of its overall usage?
c) What are the factors that affect the perception of Cebuanos’ on social media and face-to-
face interactions?
d) What are the effects of using social media and face-to-face interactions in the process of
relaying information?
Hypothesis
This research will be required to learn about Cebuanos' perception of the two modes of
communication. The information obtained from this research will aid the users in effective
communication.
Assumption
1. The respondents will fully understand the questions they will be asked
to rural people
This study will be undertaken to compare the advantages and disadvantages of the two
modes of communication to find out the effectiveness of communication. The result of the study
This study will outline the differences between the two communication channels, and the
findings will help college students in Cebu in relaying their information or other outputs that
involves academics.
The results of this study will help social media developers improve their applications or
Online entrepreneurs
The study will outline the differences between the two information-relay options, which
will help online business owners decide which platform will be most advantageous to them.
The study will serve as a guide for aspiring aspiring influencers in determining which
Scope
The scope of this study entails the topic of the usage and effectivity of the 2 modes of
communication. It also includes the perception of the Cebuanos, which is the driving component
Limitations
The study is only limited to measure the effectiveness of Social Media as a means of
relaying information. The researchers are only limited only to use the perception of Cebuanos,
which means they cannot use other people who are outside of Cebu and who also use the two
modes of communication.
Delimitations

There are two delimitations imposed by the researchers in their study. First is the decision
to not use netizens as the respondents for they survey research. Although the netizens can give
more responses, but for credibility purposes the researchers used Cebuano Students.
