Objectives (5):
1. To empower the way to use the drilling and grinding machine to make a hole on any objects correctly.

2. To ascertain the main parts, the function of the parts and how the parts work.

3. To learn about the safety precautions of drilling and grinding procedure.

List of Equipment and Tools (5):

1. Drilling machine

2. Vernier caliper

3. Height gauge

4. Hand file

5. Hand saw

6. Center punch

3
Procedure (40):
1. The workpiece was first measured accurately using the vernier caliper.

2. The height gauge was used and set to 0 before adjusted it to 50mm.

3. Workpiece was marked precisely using height gauge to know the center of the workpiece vertically.

4. Height gauge was used again and set to 25mm and marked vertically both left and right of the
workpiece.

5. Height gauge was set again at 20mm and marked the workpiece horizontally.

6. Slanted line was made at the workpiece’s end points using scriber.

7. A small hole was created on the specific position that has been marked using center punch

8. The unwanted parts were cut using the hand saw carefully.

9. After that, the parts were filed to ensure the surface has been smoothened nicely.

10. The clamp of the drilling machine was loosen using spanner.

11. The workpiece was placed on the work table.

12. The workpiece position was adjusted correctly to align the center’s hole with the drilling bit.

13. The workpiece was clamped to the work table correctly so it won’t move during the process.

14. A little oil has been put on the small hole that was needed to drill.

15. The drilling machine was switched on.

16. The spindle was lowered using the hand feed slowly.

17. Oil has been put on the workpiece at some point to avoid overheating and to ensure the drilling process
was smooth.

18. Drilling process continued on other two small holes as well.

19. The drilling bit was changed to a bigger one.

20. Another drilling process continued on the center hole to enlarge the hole.

21. Workpiece was unclamped carefully.

22. Workpiece was removed from the work table and cleaned from oil using a piece of cloth provided.

23. Final end product was smoothen using the grinder.

Discussions (30)
1. Describe the functions of drilling machine and grinding machine.

- Drilling machines perform two functions: they make an existing hole in a solid material and they
remove the part of the material that is being drilled into. Drilling is then utilised to attach
components made of solid material. It also saves time and minimizes the amount of human
effort required to drill holes in solid materials.

- A grinding machine's functions include cutting a small portion from metal products via shear
deformation and making our products look cleaner and neater. It then functions as a finishing
operation, removing any tiny material. Unwanted materials are removed from the metal piece
using a grinding machine. It also saves time and effort compared to utilizing hand files.

2. Discuss three (3) important findings that you observe during the drilling operation and grinding process.

- This activity, for starters, shows me how to use a grinding and drilling equipment. I've memorised
the parts of both devices and can identify their functions. I had to clean up the workpiece and
remove any undesirable stuff.

- Second, I discovered that during the exercise, we always practise lab safety. For instance, during
activity, always wear safety shoes and goggles, and be careful with the spinning grinding machine,
which can cut your hands if not handled properly.

- Finally, we must ensure that the machines and workspace are cleaned after each use. It is critical to
leave the workplace in the same condition as when we began the activity. This is fair to the other
pupils who will be participating in the activity later.

Conclusions (5)
1. This activity makes engineering students more familiar with grinding and drilling machine.

2. This activity teaches us on how to cut the metal correctly without any harm.

3. I learned how to make a project tidier and more careful with details as length of raw material needed is very
small in mm.

4. I improved my skills and gained my confidence as activity is done individually.

5. I understand the purpose of the main parts of the drilling machine
