( )
¿ 30+ 4.5 5
5

¿ 30+ ( .90 ) 5

¿ 30+ 4.50

Q 1=34. 5

Interpretation:

75% of the examiners will pass while the other 25% will fail. Therefore, Q1 means 25%
failed and 75% passed because Q1 is equal to 34.5 so students who got score of 34.5 or 34
below failed the exam while the students who got a score of 34 to 59 pass the exam.

¿ 40+ 2 5

¿ 40+ ( .33 ) 5

¿ 40+ 1.65

D 4=41.7

Interpretation:

Page 9 of 8
60% of the examiners will pass while the remaining 40% will fail. Therefore, D4
means that 40% failed and 60% passed means because D4 is equal to 41.7 so students
who got a score of 41.7 below failed the exam while the students who got a score of 42
to 59 passed the exam.

3) P85

Solution:

3 )
( )
¿ 50+ 2.5 5
3

¿ 50+ ( .83 ) 5

¿ 50+4.2

P 85=54.2

Interpretation

15% of the examiners will pass while the 85% failed. Therefore, the passing mark of
P85 means failed because in the item P85 is equal to 54.20 so that students who got
score of 54.20 or 54 below failed the exam while the students who got a score of 55 to
59 pass the exam.

Questions to answer:

1) What is the difference between P50 vs 50%

P50 divides the 50% of the class. 50% is the highest score of the students or divides
the 50% score of the students.

2) What does a passing mark of P80 mean?

20% of the examiners will pass while the 80% will fail. Therefor passing mark of P80
means failed because in the item P80 is equal to 51.7 so that students who got score of
51.7 or 52c below failed the exam while the students who got a score of 52 to 59 pass
the exam.

3) If I want to conduct remedial class to the bottom 10% of my students, what will
I compute?

To determine remedial class to the bottom 10% percent of my students. I will

compute D1 or P10 of my students. All students who got scores lower than D1 or P10
belongs to the bottom 10% and will conduct remedial classes.

Norm-Referenced Measure: Compute and come up with a transmutation table.

Given: M or x̄ or μ = 64
SD or σ = 12

1.00 = x̄ + 3 σ = 64 + 3 (12) = 64 + 36 = 100

1.25 = x̄ + 2.5 σ = 64 + 2.5 (12) = 64 + 30 = 94-99
1.50 = x̄ + 2 σ = 64 + 2 (12) = 64 + 24 = 88-93
1.75 = x̄ + 1.5 σ = 64 + 1.5 (12) = 64 + 18 = 82-87
2.00 = x̄ + 1 σ = 64 + 1 (12) = 64 + 12 = 76-81
2.25 = x̄ + 0.5 σ = 65 + 0.5 (12) = 64 + 6 = 70-75
2.50 = x̄ = 60 (12) = 64 = 64-69
2.75 = x̄ - 0.5 σ = 60 – 0.5 (12) = 64 – 6 = 58-63
3.00 = x̄ - 1 σ = 60 – 1 (12) = 64 – 12 = 52-57

Criterion-Referenced Measure: Make transmutation tables using the following

conditions:

1) Give a grade of 1.25 to the HPS.

Highest Grade = 1.25
Highest Possible Score = 80
Highest Score = 75
Cut-off Score = 50

13) Computation of Final Grade

Data:
First Term Grade = 91
Second Term Grade = 94
Third Term Grade = 96
Fourth Term Grade = 99

Compute for the final grade of a student using the different grading systems:

Averaging (Arithmetic Mean)

91 94 96 99 = 95

Weighted Mean (Terms 1 & 2, 20%; Terms 3 & 4, 30%)

2 94 x .2 = 18.8
3 96 x .3 = 28.8
