VII. BACKGROUND:

What is Merit/Demerit Card System?

- The system offers an impartial means of addressing, observing, and tracking the
behavior of criminology students. This approach aims to support students in making
wise decisions, resulting in well-behaved behavior. Our ultimate aim is to cultivate
disciplined and responsible students. As these students work to meet the expectations
of the school and the department, the system below will offer rewards for good
behavior and punishments for bad behavior. It is crucial that officers, educators, and
facilitators consistently hold students accountable when they make poor decisions.

What is Merit System?

- In order to strengthen discipline, the department will put more of an emphasis on

good behavior and preventative measures than on sanctions.

What is Demerit System?

- The demerit places a strong emphasis on outcomes and accountability, particularly

for people who made poor and unwise decisions.

VIII. MECHANICS/GUIDELINES:
A. Every student will be given a card with 50 merits as a start-off.

B. When a student makes a good decision/choice or good conduct behavior was shown,
merit(s) are added to his/her card.

C. When a student makes a poor decision/choice or committed an offense, merit(s) may

be taken away (demerit), depending on the level of the offense.

D. Each student is required to maintain at least eighty (80) merits to remain in good
standing. The maximum merit a student can accumulate in every semester is 100
merits.

E. At the end of every semester, rewards are given to those students who surpass the
required maintaining merits. All the accumulated merits will reset and will be back to 50
merits while all the previous records are kept by the CCJE Officers.
