Do cars enslave us rather than eliberate us?

Nowdays, statistics show us that the number of automobiles owned by people has increased
drastically in the past years and so did the number of roads. Cars seem to have made our life
easier, more convenient, but it is a fact that our automobiles take us a lot of time and money. As
far as I’m concerned , in today’s society , cars have a big role in everyday life , but they give us
much more problems than they solve.

To begin with, an important aspect is the amount of money invested in automobiles. The
prices of new cars are so high that usually a credit is taken to buy one or we have to earn a
considerable amount of money to be able to afford it. For example, the subsequent costs of taxes,
gas, insurance or keeping the car in optimal conditions are very high. In case of a car crash, the
consequences are very serious.

In addition, most people are used to spend a lot of their spare time driving and not walking by
foot, fact that proves that people nowdays tend to leave the healthy life behind.Statistics show
that the number of drivers who deal with obesity has increased. For instance, choosing to go to a
near place by car steals the opportunity to take some time for yourself and workout.

Last but not least, the rise in the amount of cars in cities has a negative impact on nature. It
has lead to a decrease of air quality in big cities and also led to an increase of noise levels. For
exemple, there is not only the nature which suffers because of the pollution, but people also have
problems with stress caused by travelling in slow traffic and breathing problems caused by poor
air conditions.

In contrast, automobiles offer us some advantageous opportunities. We cam get from one place
to another without having to wait for a bus or without having to carry heavy bags. For example,
we can set off to any place we want no matter what time of the day is.

To conclude, automobiles seem to have made our lifes easier and more comfortable. Cars
may have advantages, but they enslave us even more. Even though the car is something
necessary in our days, it shouldn’t be a determing factor in our lives.
