Is pollution a necessary evil of progress?

In my own opinion, I think pollution is not a ‘necessary’ evil of progress, it’s just
‘inevitable’. As we all know, change is constant, and that is what’s happening in our planet,
everything is changing, at least for the better. As human beings living here in the planet, we are
responsible for everything that is happening, may it be good or bad.
The reason why I said that it is not necessary but more like inevitable is because progress
has a very big impact in our lives, it makes living much easier and convenient. Having progress in
all aspects doesn’t guarantee us a 100% positive effects only, sometimes there should be
something negative in order to give the positive result. For example, a factory of candies that
uses machines produces faster that a factory with a group of people making it hand by hand. If I
am the businessman, I’ll choose the factory using machines than the other factory for the
reason that I can produce more products much faster, distribute and market it multiple times
faster than making it hand by hand. If we’re going to talk about the cost of the machines, I think
the total cost of the machines and the total cost of salaries of the workers yearly in the other
factory, the numbers is not that far from each other. So what happened when business people
invest in the machines? Many people won’t be needed, meaning many people will lose their
jobs, their source of income, and some other negative effects. But the positive effect is the fast
production.
Other examples is about transportation, here in the Philippines, we use horses or what we
call kalesa as our way of transportation, but now, we have vehicles such as motorcycles,
bicycles, jeeps, van, and many more. Carbon is one of the major factors of global warming , and
we can usually find it or usually releases it is our vehicles, that leads to pollution. But, is the
vehicle really the primary reason why there is so much carbon dioxide released? No, it is the
one handling the vehicle because when the vehicle has a proper maintenance, has proper usage
of the machines, and proper handling or everything, it will still release carbon but this time,
very little. And we all know that public transport in the Philippines is a big help for those people
who doesn’t own any private vehicle.

In conclusion, pollution only worsen because of the people’s mishandling of progress. Many
people are greedy of wealth, only focusing on saving and gaining money to the point that they
won’t invest in things that can avoid pollution, such as proper maintenance of the vehicle, or
proper usage of machines, and many more.
