Student No________________________

I. TITLE: ABSORPTION TEST OF AGGREGATES

II. MATERIALS:
Aggregates (Gravel) Laboratory Oven
Cloth Balance (Digital)

III. OBJECTIVES: Water absorption gives an idea on the internal structure of aggregate.
Aggregates having more absorption are more porous in nature and are generally considered
unsuitable, unless found to be acceptable based on strength, impact and hardness tests.

III. PROCEDURE:
1. Prepare 2kg of clean aggregates particularly gravel.
2. Immersed/soak the aggregates for 24 hrs.
3. Surface dried the aggregates with a cloth and weigh (Wa)
4. Oven dried the sample for 6 hrs. @ 120˚ C.
5. Determine the mass of the oven dried aggregate (Wb)
6. Obtain the value of the % absorption of the aggregates by the data gathered

IV. DRAW: (Sketch the materials)
