A. Thesis Statement
The K-12 program is still relatively a new program here in the Philippines
as compared to other neighboring countries. For those in senior high
school, choosing a strand that they will take for the next two years can be
stressful and confusing especially if they still don’t have any idea as to
what career they would like to pursue in the near future.
Despite the current program that Colegio de San Bartolome de
Novaliches (CSBN) is providing to Grade 10 students to help them choose
the right strand, still, this research would like to assess the actual
experiences of these students to see its effectiveness and efficiency.
This research would like to look at the current program of the school
related to this matter as its structure and curriculum is important to the
achievement of a better strand discernment.
Towards the end, this research aspires to contribute to the development
of the program and curriculum of the school particularly in guiding Gr.
10 students towards choosing the right strand.

B. Background of the Study
One of the key features of the K-12 program is the addition of two years
(Gr. 11 & 12) as compulsory requirement for pre-college education. Since
it was rolled out in 2016, most schools have sought to produce students
who are “Equipped with 21st Century Skills” and better prepared for the
future. However the attainment of these goals also depend on the quality
of the school system. 1
The perception among the current batch of Gr. 12 would often show
uncertainty as to the kind of career they would like to take in the future.
Needless to say, they are often made to choose a strand out of their need
to comply and to make do with their family’s financial limitations.
This study aims to provide factual assessment of the implementation of
the Senior High School Program. This is to uncover hidden issues from
the ground and recommend necessary interventions to improve the
implementation of the program and the eventual attainment of its
ultimate goals.
C. Statement of the Problem
Although there are schools that provide help in choosing the right strand
for upcoming senior highschool students like Batasan Eastern College.
The Senior Highschool Manual of Operations of the Department of
Education does not emphasize enough on the implementation of helping

and familiarizing the students with the academic strands and the courses
and jobs that are tied with them
D. Hypothesis
This study aims to help the Grade 10 students of Colegio de San
Bartolome de Novaliches for choosing their right strand, by conducting a
survey for each classroom on the 5 sections of Grade 10.
E. Objective
The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the value and effectiveness of
our study for students while also assisting them in selecting the best
strand as they approach senior high school.
F. Significance of the Study
Every Grade 10 student needs additional information for their academic
strands and college courses, which is why this research is being
conducted. It comprises several principles that benefit students in
learning more about the different programs and strands that various
colleges have to offer. Due to their being the study's primary focus,
incoming seniors in high school are most affected. In terms of their
ability to select the suitable academic pathways, it specifically targets
them. Some parents and educators will have ideas that are in line with
this research project for motivating students and helping them to be
honest about what their future objectives are. Since this Analysis focuses
on establishing the economic advantages for 10th grade learners in

relation to college and program preference, potential researchers who
may undertake a similar research or study will also benefit.
G. Scope and Limitation
This study is primarily focused on creating a suggestion for a strand
discernment program for grade 10 learners, this study aims to list all the
different benefits and cons of choosing different strands over the others,
whether it be course alignment or scholarship opportunity.
This study aims to gather qualitative data based on the experience of
Colegio de San Bartolome de Novaliches Grade 10 alumni batch 2020-
2021 and batch 2021-2022, in evaluating if the current program is
efficient or lacking, and to know if they have regrets over their current
strand.
The researchers aim to assess if Grade 10 learners from Colegio de San
Bartolome de Novaliches have already decided their future strand for
senior highschool.
This study will be conducted in Colegio de San Bartolome de Novaliches,
Quezon City.
This study aims to include participants from grade 10 of Colegio de San
Bartolome de Novaliches, the PTL of Grade 9-12, and selected grade 10
alumni of Batch 2020-2021 and batch 2021-2022
