1 Scope
Thjs Pad of ihis European Standard specifies the inspeciion and testirg of jndividual and serially produced
pressure vessels made ofsteeLs ln acco.dance with EN 13445-2 subject to predominanty non cycic operation (i.e.
vessels operating below 500 full equivalent pressure cycles).

Spec al provisions for cyclic operation are given in EN 13445'3 and in Annex G ol thls Part.

Th s Pari does not give inspectiof and testjng prcvisions for vessels designed uslng Design by Analysis - Direct
Roule (DBA) of EN 13445-3:2002 Annex B.

NOTE The respo.s:b llties ol paides nvolved in the confomlty assessment prccedures are glven in Dlrective 97/23/EC
Guidalrce on thls can befo!id in CR 13445-7.

2 Normative references
This European Standard incorporaies by daled or undaied reference, prcvlsions from other publcaiions. These
normatjve references are cited at the approp ate paces ln the texi and the publications are llsted hereafter. For
dated references, subsequent amendments to or revisions of any of these publications apply to lhrs E!ropean
Standard only when incorporated in ll by amendment or revis on, For undaied refeaences the latest edition of the

The sudace condition necessary for performlng all NDT shall be in accotdance wlth the standard given

Annex G
(normative)

lnspection and testing of pressure vessels subject to cyclic loads

G.1 General
To avoid faugue damage in case of cyclic loadlng more severe inspection and iesiing rcqlrirernents are
needed for critical areas of the pressure vessels, i.e. areas that can imit the lifetirae of the vesse for N > 500
full pressure cyc es (See EN 13445-3 for definition of crltical areas). To reflect this, QLralily Level B of EN ISO
581712002 s the reference qualiiy level lor maxjmum allowable imperleclions in these critjcal areas. For
cyclc loaded vesses the absence of surface imperfeciions (no undercut, no root concavity, no lack of
penetration for full penetratjon welds) afd the necessiiy of smooih transitions are essential. Only smooth
transitions are alowed, see Pad 3 figure 18-7 Simllarly, lmperfeclions sLlch as peaking are abso utely crltical
and the maximum permlssibe peaking of Part 4 or the value pelnliited in lhe fatigue analysis of clauses 17
and 18 of EN 13445-3:2002 and relerred to below, shall not be exceeded.

These testing requirer.enls are in addition to the general vessel testing requirements based on the vesse
testing groups 1, 2 or 3.

All criucal areas shall be clearly designated in the design documentation, see Ei.i 13445-3 and clause 5 of
ihis Pad.

G.2 Extent of inspeclion and tesling

ln addition io the requ rements of 6.6.2, all critical areas shall be 100% inspected, visually and by NDT, lor
both surface and volumetric impedectjons (6.6.3.3 and 6.6.3.4).
