2 Translate into Sinhala.

It was the summer holiday, and schools had finished for the year the day before. The family woke
up early for their week-long break. They had already packed their clothes and put the luggage into
the car.

The children were excited and started singing as they left home. They were still singing as the car
turned onto the motorway. A few minutes later, the car slowed down and stopped. The children
opened the windows and looked out. All they could see ahead of them was a very long line of cars,
all standing in a traffic jam.

“When will we get there?” the youngest child asked. Their mother did not answer. In the next hour,
they moved only a mile. The children started to complain about feeling hungry and thirsty. All of
them were irritated. Other drivers got angry and started sounding their horns.

After a while, a man got out of his car. He stamped his foot, and gestured to the cars behind him to
move back. Jumping into his car again, he reversed a little, drove forward and then turned the car
into the other lane. Shaking his head, he headed back home.
