Assignment # 5: Courtship

Courtship is basically a time period in which a couple spends time with each other before

engagement and marriage. There are different Patterns of it as it varies from time to time and

culture to culture. Also, the duration of courtship varies as it may take days or months while

courting. I want to discuss courtship in European culture. Which is a structured activity with

rules defined by society. In some traditional societies, parents select a Potential partner and then

provide the couple a certain period for courtship. So, they can get to know each other better

before moving toward long-term relations. As In every society it was first denied in the culture

but as time kept passing this had now become a usual event. As nowadays many young adults go

through this process while they are in college. Courtship is also supposed to be a counter to

arranged marriages. Courtship got a boom in the 1980s. when theories related to it were coming

out and giving it the name of modern dating Practice. The implications of it were still in the

culture and now it’s normal as many adults prefer to find their partner by doing courtship.
