Assignment # 2

Ethical Dilemma:

This Ethical dilemma is based around the Open adoption of a 9-year-old child named Reta.

Whose biological mother got limited access and supervised visits to her daughter 3 years ago

because of her use of drugs in the house with her boyfriend and not taking proper care of her

daughter Reta. Reta was living with her foster mother named flow. Her Foster mother was

taking care of her after Reta leaves her biological mother’s apartment. After losing her child

Stella go into rehabilitation and has been clean for a year and a half now. And left her boyfriend

and lives in a separate apartment now. She now had a steady job at a stop and shop where she

had worked for about 4 years now and was promoted to the assistant manager position. Now she

was making an Open adoption agreement with foster mother flow which allow her to get

unsupervised visits to her child.

I think the social worker handle the situation professionally because she listens and understand

the biological mother’s situation and what she was going through before making a final

statement regarding the biological mother and handing the daughter to her. In the video, she

reminded the biological mother about her duty regarding the child’s future and the fact she

prioritizes what is best for the child instead of being emotional or stuff like that in front of Stella.

She handled the situation Professionally and think about both the mother and child’s future in her

final statement.

I think I would also do the same because there is no need to do anything else. Stella had regret

regarding that she took a dose of the drug when her boyfriend on Friday arrived at her apartment.

And she was blaming herself for the mess because this will cause problems while getting open

visit custody with her daughter. But I think a consultant is not needed as I stated earlier because

her biological mother couldn’t live without her and if in any situation she failed to get her child’s

Open visit agreement. She will drawback to the drugs which will eventually ruin her life.

No, I didn’t get any challenge while watching the vignette. The one thing that I often thought

while watching the video is that she only got out from the drugs and that she did this because of

her child and now when her boyfriend came to her house. She again took the dose of the drug.

She was sorry about that but what is the guarantee that in the future if she encounters the same

situation would she not take the drugs. And if she what was the punishment given to her. These

are questions which think will be addressed for the well-being of the client. Because this matter

is related to one’s future life. So, I think there should be some rules defined to her biological

mother if she broke those rules then her daughter will again be put under supervised visits for

her.
