ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT

Ibadullah VIII-J
Through this link leading to a website I learnt all about Ecological Footprint. For
instance your ecological footprint is the measurement of how much you consume
and how much waste you produce; in short, it measures wastage of resources and
contribution to pollution keeping in mind six categories; cropland, built-in area,
carbon demand per certain area of land, grazing lands, fishing grounds and forest
area. Ecological footprint is a very important topic that if not kept in mind could
be harmful in many ways. Bio-capacity is the limit of Ecological Footprint of a
region. Bio-Capacity means to reproduce/restore consumed items naturally like
the six categories I mentioned. If the Ecological Footprint exceeds the limit of its
region’s bio-capacity then due to extreme carbon emissions, overgrazing of plains,
and overfishing will make the eco-system and the ecology suffer and will be
disturbed. This is known as ecological deficit. However there is a bright side to all
this only if mankind understands. We can try to control our ecological footprint so
it doesn’t exceed the bio-capacity and then everybody and everything can be
happy. Keeping your Ecological Footprint within the limit is known as ecological
reserve so let’s make a promise to ourselves never to take our Ecological
Footprint and Ecology and Biology for granted and try to make the world a better
place naturally.
