Q 1. Although A Tale of Two Cities is a work of fiction, most of the information about the Reign of
Terror is true. Write in your own words, three salient features of the Reign of Terror by searching the
internet.

Reign of Terror

1 The Reign of Terror,

otherwise known as The
Terror was an era of
massacres, violence and
bloodshed in France. The
country was already in
financial ruin and
considering the fact that all
the peasantry were
responsible for its economy
and the nobility partied
every night it was obvious
that there would be revolt.
However the feature here is
the fact that the King, Louis
the sixteenth and the Queen,
Maria Antoinette were very
much unaware of the
drowning economy and
harsh feuds and they
imposed hundreds of taxes
on the peasants, thus there
unawareness became the
main reason for the French
revolution.
2. Another feature is the fact
that the revolutionaries had
an unusual thirst for
violence and they usually
used brutal ways to torture
or kill people who were
mostly innocent. These
practices portrayed the
revolution as a cruel and
unjust and violent way of
bringing prosperity and the
“Reign of Terror” often put
fear into people’s minds.

3. This “Reign of Terror”

wasn’t only about violence
and bloodshed but was also
about the fact whether all of
this was worth it because no
matter how many aristocrats
were imprisoned, no matter
how many nobilities were
executed, no matter how
many forts/palaces were
stormed the people were
still living the same; no food
to be fed with, no water to
drink, no money to go on
with and no profit to be
made; it was still our jolly
old France only with a taste
of blood and war. The
feature here is that this
revolt didn’t give anything
more to the French people
but only more financial ruin,
economic crisis and a good
lesson; never to revolt
again.

My reasons for Sydney Carton Lucie Manette, the daughter of Dr Alexander Manette
