Q1.

Explain how the law of conservation of mass relates to chemical

equations?

A1. The law states that no matter can be created or destroyed. This can
be conformed through decomposition reactions as the products of the
compounds that are decomposed are not actually formed through the
reaction but it is just a simpler form of that compound and contains the
exact no. of atoms.

Q2. Why there is no change in mass during a chemical reaction?

A2. There is no change in mass because new matter cannot be formed

or destroyed. It is just the same matter but in a simpler form or in a
complex form, so mass is not changed.

Q3. What are the products formed in the following reactions?

a. Combustion reaction

a. Carbon dioxide, water and energy.

b. Metals reacting with acids

b. Salt and hydrogen.

c. Metal carbonates reacting with acid

c. Salt, carbon dioxide and water.

d. Metal reacting with oxygen

d. Oxides are formed, for e.g. magnesium+oxygen = magnesium oxide
