REACTION PAPER NO. 4

Question no. 1. As principal of Venamines Technical High School, you found the

following technical equipment for Machines Shop Technology as unserviceable.

a) Bench Grinders,

b) Drill Presses

c) Lathe Machine

(1) Describe the three equipment why they may be classified as unserviceable.

(2) Enumerate the procedure you will undertake to dispose the three technical

equipment.

Question no. 2. Ten units of computer were donated by Morong National High

School Alumni Association to the school for the use of junior high school students.

As head of the school, enumerate the ways on how you can better value the ten

computer sets donated by the alumni to extend the functional life span of the

computer units.

Answer on Question no. 1:

(1) Describe the three equipment why they may be classified as unserviceable.

(a) Bench Grinders

Bench Grinders belongs to unserviceable property because the Bench

grinder wheels sometimes need to be restored to roundness and given a fresh

grinding face with newly exposed grains. New wheels have suitable balance

when first made, but whether the balanced state will last after the wheel has

13
been mounted, and (especially) after it has been in use for a while, is "quite

uncertain".

(b) Drill Presses

The drill press is a motorized tool designed to bore holes in wood,

metal or plastic. It belongs to unserviceable because like a handheld drill, drill

presses utilize various types of bits to make holes of different diameters and

when the bits of the drill press are worn out, a reservation for other bits is

needed and also it is included in the unserviceable property because a

replacement is needed. There’s no such thing as a drill bit style that does it

all. Different tasks call for different types of drills.

(c) Lathe Machine

A lathe is a machining tool that is used primarily for shaping metal or

wood. It works by rotating the workpiece around a stationary cutting tool. The

main use is to remove unwanted parts of the material, leaving behind a nicely

shaped workpiece. The cutting tool is hold stationary and the work piece is

moved according to the desired cutting work. When the cutting tools of the

lathe machine are worn out, this is for disposal because a replacement is

needed.

Summary Answer:

As principal of Venamines Technical High School I found the following

technical equipment for Machines Shop Technology as unserviceable because even

if it is not used often, it is expensive in different types of bits, and it can be sold in

public bidding because it is still durable and valuable. Many people will be interested

in this three equipment, because it can help a lot in the shops that make vehicles

and furniture.

(2) Enumerate the procedure you will undertake to dispose the three technical

equipment.

General procedures in disposal of the three technical equipment

1. Once supplies/property becomes unserviceable from any cause or are no longer

needed, the officer immediately accountable therefore shall return the same to the

Property Officer/ equivalent position concerned.

2. The Property Officer/ equivalent position shall file an application for disposal with

the appropriate documents to the COA Auditor.

3. The COA Auditor shall inspect the items and determine whether the items are with

or without value and forwards his/her recommendation to the Head of the Agency.

4. The Head of the Agency shall forward the documents to the Disposal Committee.

5. The Disposal Committee shall recommend to the Head of the Agency the mode of

disposal as appropriate and deemed most advantageous to the government.

6. If found to be valuable the unserviceable property may be sold at the public

auction to the highest bidder under the supervision of the proper Committee on

Award or similar body.

7. The awardee shall pay, claim and withdraw the property.

Answer on Question no. 2:

As head of the school of Morong National High School the ways on how I can

better value the ten computer sets donated by the alumni in order to extend the

functional life span of the computer units are:

1. Place it in ICT Facility where there is an assigned teacher or ICT coordinator,

but make sure this facility is kept clean and tidy.

2. Record computers in inventory, to be included in school property.

3. Visit the ICT facility every week to maintain them properly.

4. Maintain cleanliness, clean dust from the computers. The easiest way to clean

it is with compressed air – open up the case, take it outside and blow the dust

out.

5. Allowing ICT Coordinator Organize cords and installation disks, Keep

software, peripheral, and driver disks in a single location, preferably close to

the computer.

6. Run antivirus and spyware scans regularly.

7. Clean up your software. Every few months, look through the Add or Remove

Programs’ interface that is found in the control panel. If there’s software on

there that you don’t use any more, remove it.

8. Clean up the Operating System. Windows is not most efficient operating

system, and sometimes needs attention itself.

9. Update everything. Check for updates for computer hardware and software.

10. Unplug to avoid overcharging or when no user.

11. Regular clean the keyboard and case.

The best things to do is to take good care of it so that it doesn’t break down

immediately and benefit the children.
