ACTIVITY NO. 3
IV. ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES
Name: Aguilos Ara TOPIC: ROCKS

Major/Year: BSE SCIENCE-1 Deadline: November 06, 2022

A. SELF-CHECK ACTIVITY:
Guide Questions:

1. Why is it that the three types of rocks are very abundant in our country?
Sedimentary rocks are rocks that are made from pieces of other rocks. They are
the most common type of rock that covers the Earth’s surface, with approximately
75% of the rocks at the Earth’s surface being sedimentary.

2. The Philippines is a volcanic country, how does it affect the rate of formation of
metamorphic rocks?
Igneous rocks from when rocks are heated to the melting point which forms
magma. Sedimentary rocks are formed from the cementing together of sediments.
Metamorphic rocks form from heat and pressure changing the original or parent
rock into a completely new rock.

3. Is MALAMPAYA gas field in Palawan providing us enough source of fuel and income?
Explain your answer.
There are currently no sufficient remaining resources from the Malampaya field
or other potential upstream developments to justify new natural gas insfracture
development.
B. ENRICHMENT ACTIVITY :
Based on previous lessons learned about the following alternative sources
of energy, answer the given questions briefly.
1. SOLAR ENERGY
1. How is solar energy developed as a source of electricity for industries and
homes? Can this be a good alternative for third world countries like the
Philippines that has the highest price for electricity in Asia?
Solar energy can be harnessed to generate electricity or be stored in
batteries or thermal storage. The amount of sunlight that strikes the
Earth’s surface in an hour and a half is enough to handle the entire
world’s energy consumption for a full year, according to the US
Department of energy. There are many benefits to solar power in
third world countries. They can help provide cleaner energy that does
not destroy the lands surrounding them. Solar can help keep the
environment and ecosystem healthier, as well as the people.

2. WIND ENERGY
1. How is wind energy utilized to produce electricity? Can our country afford
more wind farms to supply more areas in the provinces?
Wind turbines are similar to regular winds turbines, but instead of
using electricity to make wind, they use wind to make electricity. Wind
turns the propeller like blades of a turbine around a rotor. Which
spins a generator, which creates electricity. In truth, the Philippines
has been generating energy from renewable resources for a long while
now. It has only been in recent history that more and more of the
Filipino people are recognizing the benefits of renewable energies
found in the Philippines, as well as the geographic location of the
power plants where they can be found.
